Speed Dial Thumbnail Change Question
-
Is there a way to make custom thumbnails for the speed dial? Sometimes it will not work and leave it blank. (for instance, this site I use: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/canada/london). If I do the FVD speed dial in Chrome, it lets me choose a thumbnail that is provided by the site.

OK, by no reply I'm going to guess this means there isn't much that can be done.
Can someone tell me if the FVD speed dial integrates into Vivaldi as well as it does in Chrome?

https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/11298/vivaldihooks-more-useful-mods
Among other hooks, it adds the ability to change the speed dial thumbs with any image you want (assuming it's the right size) and also change the SD geometry with selectable number of rows.
Very useful and made by a trusted Vivaldi forum moderator. Have a try. -
Thanks, that looks interesting and would cover what I want.
Though I use Linux, I'm not a Linux guru. Would you or someone give me simple instructions on how to install it. I honestly can't make out what the instructions are trying to tell me. They keep mentioning {instdir}, but I can't find a folder or file called {instdir} when I go to /opt/vivaldi/resources.

that is the install dir.
from the pack you download from
https://github.com/justdanpo/VivaldiHooks
you'll find a dir
VivaldiHooks-master
inside it there are 3 dirs:
misc
screenshots
vivaldi
only the last one is relevant, it contains the actual needed files:hooks
browser.html (it will replace the one already existing in /opt/vivaldi/resources/vivaldi)
jdhooks.jscopy in /opt/vivaldi/resources the whole vivaldi dir
restart vivaldi and check settings/startup, you'll see the hooks, uncheck the ones you don't need and restart vivaldi every time you change those settings to apply the changes. -

Doh!!!! Well, I did say I was no guru!
Thanks, works great, looks like a pile of interesting ad-on's to look over and figure out if I can make use of on top of the one I wanted.
BTW, your instructions should be what come with VivaldiHooks for Linux - they were perfect.
Thank you for the idea, and thank you for your help.
Since it replaced the browser.html file, does that mean updates are more complicated?

I haven't really said anything that different from what's already written on https://github.com/justdanpo/VivaldiHooks

You have to reapply Vivaldi Hooks everytime you update because they're extra files not known by Vivaldi installer. I simply copy them on a temp dir before applying the update and then move them over the new directory.
Also make sure to check the git repo now and then because there might be updates, and they're not announced often in the thread on this forum. -
