The installer failed to uncompress archive error

  • I got the error msg "The installer failed to uncompress archive...." when trying to update the installation from 1.8.770.50 (latest is xxx.54). I never had a problem updating before.

How do I manually install the patch? Where do I download it for windows?

    Perhaps your download is broken.

    Please try this:

    1. Close Vivaldi
    2. open %TEMP% in Windows Explorer and delete the folder
    3. Download Installer from https://vivaldi.com/download/
    4. Update Vivaldi

I've also had this problem while updating 1.7 to 1.8 Stable, but I've overcome this by checking for updates manually and downloading the update again (there was some issue with incremental updates, but on the second attempt the full installer was downloaded and it worked).

  • @Gwen-Dragon I could do that but I'm curious to know what has gone wrong when I never had an issue with incremental updates before. I see 2 Vivaldi update files in %TEMP% dir inside a temporary dir after the failure, using 7zip to uncompress the archive works fine.

    • Vivaldi.1.8.770.50-1.8.770.54.delta
    • Vivaldi.1.8.770.50-1.8.770.54.delta.7z

The drive is fine with no bad/pending/relocated sectors so its not a hardware issue.

@Aviv: We're curious to know what has gone wrong, too, but without the machine in the lap of a developer, there's no way to know. This problem has not ever been reproduced and diagnosed on the developer side.
