History improvements – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.8.770.32

vivaldi://newtab now goes to Vivaldi's Speed Dial like it's supposed to, but it still shows the Google favicon.
-
I love the work going into things like the history page, but I feel the new history page is a bit sluggish. When I search for all my history, it's pretty sluggish. When I search my history for today only, it's a little faster, but still sluggish. Searching all history in the history panel is much faster, but stutters to show the final results in all history.
Other parts of the UI like Quick Commands are also very sluggish.
Other than that, good work on the development.

Hi team, you can fix the VB-13469 - Order bookmarks opening? It is now almost a year old.
Thank you.
-
Thanks for the update!
I noticed one thing that might need some improvement: If I open the site search (Ctrl-F) while a word in the website is selected, that word appears in the search field, unselected. So If I start typing immediately, my query is added to the pre-set word, and the search won't unsually find anything. Wouldn't it be better if the word in the search text field was selected, so typing would overwrite delete it?

Swings and roundabouts. One is just as likely to want to add to the string as to overwrite it.
However, I do think the string length needs a sensible limit. If a whole page is selected it all gets added to the search string.
How long is a piece of string? 128 characters? 256?

That one's tied to having "too many" bookmarks.
I hope there's no relation between too many bookmarks and what you're seeing in History though. I don't have enough history in the beta version to know, as I don't use it as my main browser.

@ahoj1234 Thanks for info! It is not a major bug, so it is not necessary to fix it immediately
-
Thanks for another update, very good improvements in history, now correctly shows the words!

@rseiler I have 542 bookmarks and history that dates back to December. Is all that considered a lot?
I also tried disabling the 2 options in the Quick Commands part of the settings, and it didn't speed it up at all.
-
Add new tab introducing to new features on update (VB-26270)
Where do I find this new tab? I've been looking through all the settings and internal pages and I can't find it. No such tab has appeared on update either...
-
Neat! Love update day!
Just a question though - CCleaner keeps seeing Vivaldi as "Chrome", not even changing the icons despite now supporting Vivaldi. Is it some licensing issue, or are they just ignoring the yet small installed base of V?

Don't know much about history, but 542 bookmarks may be too many for Quick Commands, depending on the system (I can't tell you how many I have since I don't know of a place that actually shows you a count; it's more than that though). More info here, including a sort-of workaround:

@D0J0P: I guess define "very sluggish." I have a good deal more bookmarks than you do, and F2 does not strike me as slow here.
-
@rseiler If you go to the internal bookmarks page, it'll show you a count of each bookmark in every folder you have. I just pulled out the calculator on my computer and counted them all. I do know about the workaround with entering a symbol before a letter, but it's not exactly ideal.
Do you know if you have to have over 300 bookmarks to make it sluggish? Cause 300 doesn't sound like a lot for Vivaldi users, and I don't exactly have more than most power users do.
-
@Ayespy It takes a second or two after I start typing in the Quick Commands before the text appears. And when I press enter, there's a second delay sometimes before that command is executed.

Wonder if it only intended to appear for Stable updates (because of the reference to new features)?

Bug reported! I hope they resolve before the release of the stable version. - VB-26682

The address box at the top of the screen is still severely lagging. It started with the previous release and continues in this one. When you load Vivaldi, it takes about 10 seconds for it to go "active" and allow you to use it.
-
In this version(1.8.770.32), I can't use the "speed dial2" extension, the new page is blank, can not display the dial content, only to return to the previous version(1.8.770.25).
-
@alnhny: This is not a bug, but a feature. Vivaldi has prevented chrome:newpage or vivaldi:newpage from displaying the Chromium "new page" which has no relationship to Vivaldi or its stored data. That has broken a number of "Speed Dial" extensions. They are working on a workaround right now, with will still allow these extensions to work.
