Stop asking for download location?

  • Is there any way to stop Vivaldi on asking for download location?

It seems to be an odd behavior, since I already set the default location in the settings, but it keep asking!?

@TMSxVivaldi: Did you check the checkbox "Always Save Files to the Default Download Location?"

If so, are ALL downloads showing the "Save As" dialog?

  • @TMSxVivaldi
If the one in Vivaldi was checked, also visit vivaldi://chrome/settings ~ Downloads. The one in there suppose to be un-ticked.

  • @Ayespy Yea, tried checked and unchecked, same result... (latest snapshot)

It dose not show me Downloads section! however, in the top of the page, it shows me "
Vivaldi detected that some of your settings were corrupted by another program and reset them to their original defaults." could that be that the reason? it asking to reset all settings((... will that reset also vivaldi\extensions?

@TMSxVivaldi: Probably. It's almost certainly an extension causing your problem.

You need to hit the "Show advanced settings..." down below to show the rest of that page.

however, in the top of the page, it shows me "

    Ugh...
    Before doing anything else severe.
Disable all your extensions first, restart Vivaldi. See if that message still there.

  • @Ayespy Nope, disabled all extensions, restarted, same thing... I do not have download\saving related extensions anyway.

  • @dLeon Sorry, it was stupid to not see the advanced thing...

Disabled all extensions, unchecked chrome & Vivaldi "ask every...", restarted Vivaldi, same thing!! still asking for download location, and still saying that settings are corrupted...

@TMSxVivaldi: Refresh your profile and see what happens...

  • Please note that in Chrome this was discovered to be a serious security issue in the past. Its very risky to let a site download files to your computer without asking for the user confirmation.

Do you really want this? People where able to exploit computers with Chrome because of this issue by triggering the automatic download of a malware files to your hard drive. You should always keep the ask for confirmation box true in my opinion.

Trust me. You don't want things downloading data directly to your hard drive without your consent and websites can do this. Its easy to trigger a browser download by just visiting a page.

  • @terere Yea I know that, but chrome overcomes this by just asking you if you are sure to do the download, but Vivaldi insists on asking about download location! this is different!

@Ayespy Doing this will force me to lose a lot of things.. I have like a ton of windows and opened tabs organized in stacks... if there is no other way to resolve it, I'd prefer to live with this problem.

    P.S
I forget to tell that I am using a standalone version, if that matters.

  • @TMSxVivaldi
    For completeness, @Ayespy mean;
after you close Vivaldi, you suppose to backup your old profile first. Either rename it to something or move it to somewhere safe.
Note: make sure Vivaldi "really" close (check Task Manager), sometime it linger for a while to close everything properly.

When you reopen Vivaldi, it will re-create new profile. So, we could check all these problems still exist.

@TMSxVivaldi: You won't necessarily lose anything, except possibly what's causing the problem. Literally EVERYTHING you have right now can be added back just by moving files or, if a fresh profile fixes nothing, you just rename the old one back, and it's as though nothing ever happened.
