Windows Update not updating (Windows 7 64-bit)
-
@dLeon I was first introduced to Linux during the 1990's, but did my first install in the early 2000's with SuSE 9.
Then used Mandriva, PCLinux OS, Ubuntu, Debian and now Fedora.

Hello everyone,
Exact same problem here, solved (kind of). I didn't notice it sooner since I hadn't been using Windows in a year on my laptop.
Well, after some hours, Windows finally downloaded some updates, and it took an hour after that to reboot the computer.
I also noticed that Avira antivirus, which I use on Windows, sometimes blocks Internet except for the browser while updating, which can take a while.

The new format of the security updates will now not install on Windows 7. I've decided not to bother with anything-Windows anymore.

@edwardp - Interesting. It installs on Win7 here.

@edwardp Did every update failed? If yes, you have to:
- Launch and run cmd As administrators
- Enter the following commands:
a. net stop wuauserv
b. net stop bits
c. net stop cryptsvc - Check in services.msc if the Windows Update service is running.
- Go to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and delete the files. (if you want you can backup the files).
- Go to Control Panel and launch Windows Update. This will force Windows Update to search for new updates.
- If the updates installation fails again:
a. download a new Windows 7 kit and install over the existing windows installation. Warning: Before doing this do a back-up to your files.
b. If the updates installation fails again, after doing step 6.a., call Microsoft support.
Hope that will help you.
