History Panel opens all links without warning?

  • Looks like the History Panel opens all links without warning?

    How to reproduce:(*)

    • Open the History Panel

    • Select some date

    • Hit <Enter>

    • Zillions of tabs get open!

    • I would expect to be asked if I want to open all those hundreds of tabs

(*) Before testing you better disable restarting a new session using the previous tabs, or you'll may enter a freeze loop. If you do, reading vivaldi-unresponsive-due-to-too-may-tabs-open may help. (if you have another browser, that is :-) )

Cant reproduce with 1.8.755.3 on Windows 10.

Please explain more precise what you do.

    Open the History Panel
    Select some date
    Hit <Enter>
    Zillions of tabs get open!

With which Vivaldi version does this happen?
    On which OS version?

  • Confirmed here too:

    1. Open History Tab
    2. Select a date
    3. Press Enter

Vivaldi freezes. End Task and restart from last session loads hundreds of tabs.

    @rkzn
    I could reproduce that.
    Not zillions tabs.

It doesn't care to tabs opening limit we set in Bookmarks setting.
Mine was set to 3. Just choose 4 tabs, then hit Enter key.
Current page will be replaced with 1 history + 3 new tabs without question.

    I am not sure how...

    Forgot about that, sorry.

The point is more or less that there is no restriction on how many history entries are loaded with one "enter-hit" (like the one that already exists for bookmarks as dleon mentioned)

As far as I tested this, it only works in "History in the making".
So when you select a bunch of history entries by accident (worst case would be Ctrl+A I guess) and hit enter they all open up at once and still persist after a restart of Vivaldi.

Yes, if you select them (seperately or with Ctrl+A) and hit Enter, they will be opened.
But opening selected entries from History is the usual behavior users would expect.
What do you need? A warning like "You want to open more than 10 links from History? y/n"

    //EDIT:
Such warning opening many urls from New History is already implemented in Vivaldi internal developer version.
Please wait until next Snapshot will come up.

and still persist after a restart of Vivaldi.

Yes, you have to delete some session files then.
Go to your Vivaldi profile folder.
Delete files like "Current *" and "Last *"

Yep, something like this or a restriction that can be set like the one for the bookmarks.

And it is not necessarily triggered by an active selection through the user. Sometimes when I switch from a website to the history there are random entries preselected (I couldn't pin down what causes this and in addition History in the making is still in the making ^^).
So - releasing a "tab-stampede" is only an inconsiderate press of the enterbutton apart.
