User Agent

  • Hi, since some time I cant install extensions.
Google store told me to install Chrome, nice joke. :)
    User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0
I read somewhere in forum you can switch User Agent in developer tool but cant find it again.
    Search give 100´s of results.
May I can start Vivaldi with different User Agent?

    Cheers, mib

  • @mib2berlin Move your default folder out of the Vivaldi directory and try with clean profile. Don't think switching user agent will do anything.

If you wanna try it nevertheless open developer tools, click on the three dots and on "show console drawer"; then click the three dots in the drawer and select "network conditions" -- there you can switch the user agent.

Google Webstore detect Linux Vivaldi as Firefox for Windows?
Did you start Vivaldi with --user-agent flag?

  • Thanks luetage, using dev tools is working, after restart Vivaldi no popup with (download Chrome) anymore.
Btw, there is no Linux agent in developer tools.

@dLeon, oops I had --user-agent flag in desktop shortcut.
Was testing something but forget.

@both, will delete --user-agent flag and set agent to auto again.

Thank you again and cheers, mib

  • Hi, today I had to login to freenet.de with Vivaldi and got redirected to "page has moved > 404.
I changed back to "Firefox on Windows" identity in developer tools and login work fine.
This was the reason I changed to it some weeks ago.
Freenet support send me to Chrome/Firefox after ask for help. :/

    Cheers, mib

  • @mib2berlin
I suggest to not using --user-agent flag method.

    Extension like Custom UserAgent String
could work per domain/exact URL/all sites.

Useful if you just want specific site detect you as something else.

dLeon, I had some issues where such useragent changer extensions changed late in execution/loading process and websites failed to work correct.
The only solution was to change useragent in command line.

  • @Gwen-Dragon
Yeah, in some case that's correct. Extension method not powerful enough to over complicated iframe/javascript sites for example.

It still useful if we need it occasionally. Or on more calm sites.
