Minor update to Vivaldi 1.1
-
Seems really fast here too on 2 Core machine.
-
I'm sure they will get to it just as OTHERS have said. Most feel this isn't a BIG issue when they have MUCH bigger fish to fry.
PATIENCE we are NOT 3 year old children there's a time and place. I agree it would be handy just NOT essential to all that many if the browser works well and is stable, priorities. -
Okay, page hanging is still an issue. It just started happening now.
-
Okay, page hanging just started happening now. It's happening from time to time still, and may increase over time again.
-
Higher numbers are faster.
-
It may not be a "big" issue, but it is an extremely noticable one (guaranteed to be witnessed by everyone using Vivaldi at one point or another). Also, probably extremely easy to fix. So why shouldn't it be repaired sooner rather than later?
-
There are a couple hundred or so bugs and incomplete features ahead of it in line, could be one reason why. And I know people are prone to assume that others share their point of view and priorities but, just so you know, I've been using Vivaldi for 16 months, most of that time as my default browser, and have never missed, could care less about, download speed and "time remaining" notations. Likewise, among the several tens of thousands of persons commenting on the forums, only a very few bring it up. That even a few people bring it up may cause the developers to look at it, but then again, their hands may be too full with other stuff.
-
What you say applies to every singe comment here; everyone has a unique issue that he wants fixed.
But there should be absolutely no argument about this. Download speeds are present in every single browser for nearly 20 years, and not having a simple script like that makes the browser feel so much less finished than say, not having an integrated mail client, or having Vivaldi steal focus in an obscure case of having a 100 tabs open during a full moon. -
Mebbe a Linux master could respond to that. It installs just fine on my Lubuntu 14.0.4 LTS - so I'm surprised it wouldn't work on your 16.04 Ubuntu
-
Stable is now at 1.1.453.52. I have both stable and snapshot on my machine. I just install one regular, and one standalone.
-
You're absolutely right. It does apply to every comment here. Every one. And I'm not arguing that your concern should not be looked at. I'm just offering some perspective. For all we know, the developers are already thinking of some way to introduce that data into the little header of the download panel.
In the meantime, the info you want is shown on the vivaldi://downloads page. It may make it into the UI sooner or later as well.
-
First of all stable and snapshot are two different update streams.
Stable (latest version is Viv 1.1 aka 1.1.453.52)
Snapshot (latest version 1.1.453.45)Stable skips every update between the major releases
Snapshot skips every major release and only takes the versions in between to update for testingAnd yes you can install both.
Under Linux and Mac you should be able to just install two different versions (I don't know this by experience only through reading so maybe ask around)Under Windows you need to do the following:
Install one version just like a normal version (no difference which one you want to install first)Next you want the other version installed as standalone (also a way to make a portable version for usb-usage)
Plug in an usb stick (do it even if you don't want to install the version on it because "standalone" might not be avaiable otherwise) execute the viv-setup -> "Advanced"->under "Installation Type" there is a dropdown where you have to select "Install Standalone" than install it to your harddrive -> done
If you want a portable version for me it worked best so far to install on my harddrive and then copy it to usb-device

OK, one more time:
SEARCH SUGGESTIONS DON'T WORK

Ditto, some never listen or TRY to understand, just think theirs are the only ones.
For MONTHS I had the problem of not even being able to USE Vivaldi and put up with it, didn't like it but they finally got to the problem. Apparently they don't realize this hasn't been in development for years and years. If I was them I'd be more worried about dowload resume… ( it may be already there). I downloaded Open Suse iso last night on my slow everything and used a bit-torrent download it took HOURS. Went down to 270K sometimes and at 3 AM went to finally 3 Meg, kids on Sundy nights.
If I had used something else and got to 3 Gig out of 4 Gig and lost connection it would have been REALLY frustrating.
Especially when my limit is 10 Gig month.

Is that a hint to Ruarí?

@DarkMagician : This problem comes when third-party cookies are disabled in your web browser. YouTube notification's need cookies from [.]youtube.com and [.]google.com

The thing is, the Downloads Panel already does show download progress, e.g. 1.59 Mbytes of 7.59 Mbytes so it's not exactly difficult to estimate how much longer you will have to wait.
The download path can be copied from the right-click context menu.
This is a cosmetic issue. Download speeds are anyway notoriously unreliable as they can vary widely during a long download, Estimated times are likewise just that, an estimate, and they can be wide of the mark by some distance.
Having these figures displayed will do nothing to speed up the download.
A resume broken download feature is far more important, but you did not even mentioned that.
This blog is apparently seen by many as the place to make feature requests, but it's not the right place for that. Ideally, it should be used only to report problems with the current build.

Does it really seem to you that it is a good idea to "scream" to get what you want?
From my view you behave pretty impolite especially because - when I remember right - there already was the announcement that there is work in progress regarding your issue.
[Edit:] Okay after reading the last few release-blogposts I have to admit that I don't remember correctly but Ruari already read your post and commented it -which I would take as a good hint for your cause has been noticed. [/Edit]And I am sure that this ain't the only problem that needs to be fixed and maybe you still have to wait because there are bigger problems that needs a solution first.
I recommend to be a bit more patient, you aren't the only one waiting for fixes.

It should install, indeed. What are the error message, if any ? Do you try to install in the console ?
Any info would be welcome to help fix this -
Or even better: add a checkbox "never lazify pinned tabs", two radios "lazify by default" and "keep active by default" plus the option to enable/disable on a per-tab basis.
