Snapshot 1.0.340.7 - Silent Tabs For Users, Netflix support and HTML5 notifications
-
Not fixed at all for me, all shortcut actions are postponed until tab is loaded.

The "advantage" of 64-bit software is that, on a 64-bit system of the right design, it can hog more memory and more processor cores at once. IF (and it's a big if) the task at hand REQUIRES a single process to access more than 2GB of memory at once, and if it will only run smoothly if multiple processes are running in parallel on different processors so as to maximize processor speed, then the task will run faster, better and more smoothly in 64-bit software and on a 64-bit system.
For instance, I have an image processing/editing program that I happen to have installed both in its 32-bit version, and in its 64-bit version. High resolution images CAN take up a huge amount of memory space, and modifying them can be both a memory-intensive and CPU-intensive task. If I have a huge, dense image I'm editing, the program runs a trifle more quickly and responsively in 64-bit than in 32-bit, especially in RAW format, because the RAW data format contains about seven times as much data for a single image as that same image in jpeg. But at the same time, I want to be sure I'm not also running my bookkeeping software while the image processor is busy, because both are 64-bit and they both want command of a huge chunk of my system for some tasks. If I run them both in 32-bit, they both run at maximum speed (for that version) and never interfere with each other.
Now if you're running 3D gaming on line in your browser with sophisticated graphics, you're more sure of running without dropped frames or choppiness, etc. in 64-bit. But realistically, that is the only instance I can think of off-hand where a human being would really notice the speed advantages of a 64-bit browser in most cases.
All that said, 64-bit Vivaldi already uses more memory than 32-bit, so it's obviously taking advantage of the main "benefit" that 64 bits has to offer.
-
Please, PLEASE fix the backspace taking me back while I'm typing on certian websites (macrumors for example!) This is so annoying that it makes me drop Vivaldi and use some other browser for certain websites
-
The advantage of 64 bit is that we have 64 bit processors and 64 bit operating systems these days. I remember people saying that 32 bit was not necessary and might even be slower than 16 bit, back in the day, after all most data is 8 bit anyway, etc etc.
Not giving a 64 bit version at least equal prominence in this day and age seems a bit strange to me.
-
Wasn't that fixed? What version number are you using? (I personally have never experienced what you're getting, but I could have sworn this was in the changelog a couple of versions agoâŚ)
-
That is Bulbus Stercum and you know it. Everyone who sees that acronym will understand the meaning differently, which is obviously the intention. It is puerile and unprofessional.
-
Not fixed yet, eg. Hangouts through Gmail : when I'm using backspace in chat windows, sometimes Vivaldi will take me back. Running latest snapshot (1.0.340.7) on ArchLinux
-
Bulbus stercum :D. Not knowing much Latin I had to look it up. I'm out. Peace.
-
Do you see any patterns on how to reproduce? I tried Hangout and could not reproduce easily there
-
I'll try to investigate further and provide you a protocol that triggers the issue.
-
Okay, I'm able to reproduce the issue with this pattern (this may require multiple tries):
- open a new tab, and select gmail inbox (using address bar and history search)
- click on any hangout conversation visible : the chat window will popup, and text cursor should be set and ready for inputs (you won't need to gain focus on this window)
- type some text
- delete it with backspace -> when the bug occurs, you'll go back in page history. If not, just close the tab, and restart at step 1
If you need further information, I'm running Vivaldi under Plasma 5.4.3 (ArchLinux)
Hope this helps

As I also use my browser as PDF reader I have a request for an upcoming update: commented PDFs just show where the comments are but you can't actually read them.
Windows 10, 64bit -
Thank you, Vivaldi team!
Any tips how to get H.264/MP4 working (again) on Linux after Chromium (47) update?
-
Using foul language even as an acronym is unprofessional.
Just refer to it is a MUTE TAB feature like any civilised people would. You must be fun at parties!
-
It has something to do with new Chromium version.. maybe RuarĂ Ădegaard can lead us to right direction is he sees itâŚ
-
Same with every plugin It's great security/privacy measures also. Especially for those poor people, who have to use java somewhere because of banks etc.
-
From the beginning of Vivaldi this issue is the only thing I was really afraid of :
"What if the non-Native UI Elements are going to be the Bottleneck to Performance ?!"and I'm still waiting for some optimizations to prove me wrong on the account of UI Performance⌠still waiting...

This is not a party. It's a blog for a professional software product that needs to gain widespread public acceptance, not only for script kiddies.
Buddhist monks do not go to parties.

Seriously mate, you should be more humble.
Of course there are many bugs, there are many bugs in Chrome too. Just look at the problems when it comes to battery/memory/resources with Chrome. And Chrome is owned by Google, who has pretty much unlimited resources to spare⌠Vivaldi team is small and they are doing a favour for humanity by trying to compete, hehe. It's not easy, if it was, everyone would make their own browser.

You need to use a proper PDF Plugin, not just the Chrome PDF reader. Enable plugins in Tools, Plugins. Install the Adobe Reader, Foxit, or PDF-XChange plugin for Vivaldi if it's not there. Mine seem to have disappeared in recent updates.
