Snapshot 1.0.212 - Mouse gestures with touchpad!
-
Using Blink really has little to nothing to do with Google and the various conspiracy theories connected thereto. That said, Vivaldi has had little to no optimization effort devoted to it as yet, and until it does, one may expect it to be the worst sort of resource hog, as many Chromium browsers have proven to be. It is possible to tweak the browser code to reduce HDD writes, RAM usage, CPU cycles consumed, etc.
Of course as soon as Vivaldi starts doing this, OTHER "show stopper" problems will also arise, and need to be addressed. I'm willing to wait and see how they address Chromium's universally known and universally despised problems. It's inconceivable they will not do so.

Same here. On whatever site where I want to save the password, Vivaldi crashes but seems to save the password because on a restart, it logs in with the saved password.

Well I tried to have some life away from my computer this weekend but each time my hands did happen to touch the keyboard and mouse I was so happy to use Vivaldi; it's working so well. It's come a long way in a short while and the journey is just starting. Now I am anticipating a new snapshot this week and expecting more improvements. It's great to be part of this project. Just sayin'.

This might have been answered before, but I don't know where….
Vivaldi opens super slow on my machine in Windows 10 (it takes at least 30 seconds to load initially). 64 bit Vivaldi. Is there any way to fix this? Do I need a new profile? Fresh install?
-
From feedback that I have received, Vivaldi/Chrome on 64Bit OS, is significantly crippled compared to the 32Bit version; Also, seems that they may require best part of 8 Gig. of
RAM, if it is not to Stutter or Freeze. -
- Mouse-Wheel gesture when hovering over tab bar should be optional
- markdown in notices doesn't work at all (has worked partially in a former release)
- make pages resizeable, when tiled
- possibility to assign a keyboard shortcut to toggle the tab bar
- I cannot reproduce this: when reopening a page from the trash bin last time the page has been opened in Chrome (btw. Vivaldi is registered as my standard browser)…
- impossible to register ixquick.de as a search engine (no such entry in right click menu) It was possible in a former release though
-
BUG - create two tabs group, reboot browser - then he crash
-
I noticed the default path for the 64-bit installer is "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Vivaldi" instead of "%ProgramFiles%\Vivaldi".
-
Can't confirm. Defaults to "Program Files" for me. You probably have a 32-bit install already? Then it'll probably pick up this path…
-
I'm the bad guy today again.
We are working on getting TP4 ready. But next build will soonest be available on Wednesday. -
Okay. I'll uninstall, clear the reg settings and check again just to make sure.
-
Okay. I uninstalled and cleared Vivaldi registry settings. When I launch the 64-bit installer, go to advanced and switch to "all users", it now defaults to "Program Files" like it should. I did install 32-bit vivaldi at one point, but it wasn't installed when I originally installed the 64-bit version. Anyway, I guess it's a false alarm. Thanks for checking.
-
Another great build again. How can I configure the mouse gestures, or at least the mouse gesture mapping? I need to get "down" to be "new background tab", it is in my unalterable part of the brain.
-
Why complicate your life to bind a a function already binded with middle button?
-
All of those? Cool, good to hear, thanks. (That includes the built-in content blocker, too?)
-
I can confirm the problem with Chrome/Chromium. It always ended up eating up all my RAM in my computer, and even a little more: I mean there wasn't an occasion that it didn't begin to fill the swap file too, even so that I have 6GB of RAM. lately I even was forced to not have Gmail open all the time, because it just used that much RAM in itself.
For the last month I switched to Vivaldi full-time. I didn't change my browsing habits, I still don't hesitate to open a big amount of tabs. Yet the swap file rarely gets used, and most of the time I even have half of the physical RAM unused. I don't know how it does its thing, but Vivaldi saved my computer for now.
-
Thanks for the heads-up. In my book, I prefer (within limits) technically sound over "on time."
-
Chromium's resource hunger is a problem, to be sure. I don't think it's the business of software companies to force us onto more and more expensive hardware just to run their crap. Intuit, for instance, has famously written their accounting software to require bigger and badder computers to run it, with each version. I look forward to seeing what the Vivaldi crew can do to get it to run leaner and faster.
-
Why are you presuming that:
a) they have a middle button on their mouse (or trackpad);
b) the middle button is not an awkward-to-click scroll wheel;
c) there's no medical or other reason that makes it more comfortable to do a gesture with Alt key + mouse/trackpad movement; or
d) this person wants an uncomplicated life?
etc. -
It sounds like you must have "Close Tab on Double-Click" activated. There is a bug that shows a blank tab on closing tab, with this checked. If that's the case then you can solve the problem for now by disabling that option.
