'Insert note' entry for textbox context menu?
-
Hi from Germany! Since this looks to become what Opera was before it switched to being chromium-built, I have a question/feature request. Is it possible to include the 'insert note' entry for textbox context menus again? I loved that feature so much. Thanks in advance and much love, Daniel.

+1 on this. Use it all the time in Opera, a real time saver!

Very useful feature. -
Bump. This is the only reason I used notes

I know this is a bit of a necropost, however since this is an addition I am also interested in seeing (I require the ability to quickly look through a list of notes and insert them into messages for work), I have been doing some digging. What I found was a post from someone at Opera Software which appears to be elaborating on adding missing features to Opera Chromium, and he mentions that he won't be able to add an "Insert note" option to the context menu until this bug in Chromium is fixed.
Apparently Chromium will write to one or more files every time something attempts to add an entry to the context menu, and if there is a large amount of context menu entries being added (such as with a lot of notes that need to appear in the context menu), the browser essentially freezes for a while while it attempts to process all of the write operations while adding the entries to the context menu.
From the discussion in the bug report, Chromium developers are unwilling to make any changes to this behavior for fear of breaking something (they could break thousands of extensions if that happens), since they don't see there being enough of a benefit in improving the performance of adding context menu entries. It looks like we're stuck looking for alternatives, since Opera 12 isn't going to be a viable option forever, and clearly Chromium based browsers aren't going to be able to mimic every feature in Opera.
I did find an old extension for Chromium based browsers that does have this functionality, however it hasn't been updated in 4 years, and may have some bugs. The source code was also pulled from Google Code, or at least isn't publicly accessible, although I didn't find anything in a quick search to suggest that the extension isn't safe.

I don't know whether Vivaldi will be able to add notes to the context menu, but there is usually a way to achieve something given enough time and effort. Meanwhile, here is a workaround that is not too particularly cumbersome.

-
Critical — Crashes, loss of data, severe memory leak
-
Major — Major loss of function
-
Minor — Minor loss of function or other problem where there is an easy work-around
-
Trivial — Cosmetic problem like mispelt words or misaligned text.

Not every BTS has the same priority options, and priorities can mean different things to different companies/developers. For instance, the company I work for considers "Blocker" to also be anything that prevents users from being able to use the software (fortunately we don't usually have bugs that serious, as our QA team rather extensively tests our software), or really anything that absolutely must be fixed first.

Yes, I understand that, but I was just demonstrating how to paste a note with drag and drop.
The official definition is a bit vague so my note tries to clarify for ordinary users.
Blocker — Highest priority. Indicates that this issue takes precedence over all others.
Critical — Indicates that this issue is causing a problem and requires urgent attention.
Major — Indicates that this issue has a significant impact.
Minor — Indicates that this issue has a relatively minor impact.
Trivial — Lowest priority. -
