Flashing screen when using Vivaldi

  • After a recent clean install of Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon I've had a bit of a annoying glitch.

Whenever I play a Youtube (or, as it seems, any other streaming site) video or visit for example facebook.com I experience massive flashing screen. On Facebook it gives a flash now and then when the tab is idle, but it gets horrible when trying to play a video. Same behavior seen on Youtube.

Same problem in both stable and latest snapshot (1.7.725.3) and with fresh .config/vidaldi // .config/vivaldi-snapshot (had to try in both stable and snapshot to be sure).

I did initially think it was a HW problem or maybe even something with Linux Mint, but since the issue is only present in Vivaldi it might be a bug. πŸ™‚
Might be worth mentioning I have dual GPU on this computer, witch do account for some strange behavior - so It might be related to that. Some sort of NVIDIA/Intel dual thing I haven't quite figured out yet. πŸ˜•

    Sooo... Any thoughts?

    Maybe related to this thread?
    Screen flickers

  • Indeed. πŸ™‚

-disable-gpu-vsync seems to have done the trick.

I also had this annoying flashing issueπŸ˜– on my m6800 and i fix it by following procedure. I sharing this with you because i thought i might be help you:

    • Turn off the computer.

    • Turn it back on again, start tapping key at the Dell Logo splash screen.

    • If the computer boots to windows, turn the computer off and try the steps again.

    • If the screen doesn’t flicker in BIOS page and safe mode then ,update the video drivers for your computer from the Dell support website.
Not only this method can resolve issue but there are many other methods that also helps to fix this error. If this method is not suitable to you then you can check another methods in Dell Precision M6800 Manual. Good luck. πŸ‘
