How To: Make Vivaldi go dark
-
Hi there, As I've already seen requests from others like me who would like to change Vivaldi's appearance, e.g. giving it a dark window frame/theme, here is how to (if you don't mind a bit of fiddling with 'code'): Apart from changing icon images in ...\Vivaldi\Application\1.0.94.2\resources\vivaldi\resources one can edit the common.css located in ...\Vivaldi\Application\1.0.94.2\resources\vivaldi\style\common.css (Create a copy first or -untried- alternatively change the link in ...\Vivaldi\Application\1.0.94.2\resources\vivaldi\browser.html to a new CSS file - I think that's what the developers had in mind for changing themes one day?!) For making the outer frame go dark, use a text editor and (automatically) replace (all) "F6F6F6" with e.g. "1F262A" - the background color of the side panel bar. Happy modding Cheers, thewer

Interesting. Already we see some early posts re: true "skinning" of the browser. It will never be as simple as the old .ini files, but maybe the devs can arrange a way that user mods can be packaged as "skins" and, once applied, will persist from one update to the next without being overwritten.
Already there are flags you can set to do things like turn off the title bar and tab color change.
Flexibility, thy name is Vivaldi.

I'm not a web developer, so css files are slightly mysterious to me.
But I'm still using Opera 12 because it's easy to go find image.css, open it up, and change the background color for images to black. I spend a lot of my day looking at dark images, and find it's hard on the eyes when they're surrounded by large fields of white.
Is there a way to do the same with Vivaldi? I did find and open common.css, but it's got so much in it, I'm not sure where to start.
Thanks if anyone can help. If I don't get an answer here, I'll try opening a new forum topic.

have you ever though about that in Vivaldi we might see these lines in setting under some "Custom skinning" with a menu where you can just chose colour (as a colour not 1F262A (for example like simple windows painting app. mix your own colour without knowing its hex).
At least I would be more experimenting there than browsing if that comes true! imagine all these css lines that can change something… even colour of a few buttons and you can all change it in settings with a quiet nice GUI...)
