Vivaldi Shortcut Opens Settings Menu Only, No Browser Window

  • As of last night I can no longer open Vivaldi. Any time I click the shortcut to open the browser I am shown the Vivaldi settings window but not the actual browser itself. If I close the settings window the process ends and nothing else happens. I have tried several methods to open the software, including the expanded menu from the start menu to open one of the sites from speed dial. I am at a a loss as to what action to take.

  • Try launching it from Windows Explorer.

Hi, this was an unfortunate bug in the first release. If you are on Windows you can do Ctrl+n to bring up a new window once you have started the browser/settings window.
But better yet, you could install the upgrade we released yesterday: https://vivaldi.net/blogs/entry/first-snapshot-vivaldi-1-0-94-2

  • @Pesala:

Try launching it from Windows Explorer.

I tried this already by opening it direct from the install directory of %APPDATA%\Local\Vivaldi\Application\Vivaldi.exe. It made no difference.

I didn't think to try CTRL+N. I did try CTRL+T for a new tab which did not work. Thanks for the info, and I am downloading the newest version.

Edit: Is there a page where I can follow changelogs for updates? I am a nerd like that.
