Found out bug that can freeze Vivaldi

  • I uploaded a proof-of-concept here:
    https://kaschulla.eu/bugs/vivaldi-freeze.html

It spams a lot of "setTimeout"s in Javascript and updates an element.

It would be nice if this could be fixed.
If you wait long the browser also my crash.

I tested it on linux, but since the Javascript-Engine is the same on other platform it should work on them too.

Vivaldi does not freeze completely for me on my Vivaldi 1.7.
As i can see only the tab, it does not resize the content if i resize the window.
I can remember a similar case like yours.

    Please send a bugreport.
Please describe as precisely as you can and report the bug at https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/.
You will get a bug confirmation mail and in a reply to this mail you can add more information for the testers and bug tracking team.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi, thanks for your answer.

Firtly I realized that I had installed 1.5.658.56-1 instead of 1.6.689.46-1 (latest relase on Manjaro).
As I updated my browser to that version, it behaved the same as in 1.5.
I also tried it on the current release (1.6 too) offered by the Homepage for Windows (in a VM with Win 8 (64-Bit); 2GB Ram and 3 Cores @ 3.20Ghz).
    It also behaved the same.
The latest 1.7 snapshoot worked as long I switched out of the tab after clicking the button. When I switched back it began to lag too and it was difficult to get out of the tab. But it worked better and didn't lagged that hard.

So it is partly fixed in 1.7.
I submitted the bug at the formular you mentioned.
