  • Thank You for setting up this thread.

I did find some of the things important to me in older threads, but as we know, there are becoming more topics overall to examine as more folks hear about Vivaldi, so a Sticky is wonderful ( or two-derful, as Victor Borge would have said :silly: :P )

    Help, HowTo, FAQ

    More to come…

I was asking myself if I'd seen any Vivaldi FAQ somewhere.. But it's clear now it doesn't exist –officially I mean. This post comes to fill this gap. Thank you, debbie.

    Look, I have a question:
I do know "Howto" modify anybody's karma… But now, I want to know how to thank someone
How to modify that "Thank you received".

That is a vestige of an old feature that disappeared before the site was opened to the public. Sort of curious why it's still there, but it's not important.

Anyway, I am working on lists of things for this page and the bugs page. If something comes to mind, folks, feel free to remind me, preferably via PM.

  • Ah, bien… So then, I'm gonna modify your karma right away (up)

    You're worthy, D. (smile)

Actually, it exists. It's linked from bottom of the page. https://vivaldi.net/faq
The problem is apart from being quite hidden, content is quite slim at the moment.
I want to expand it as we are finding more frequent questions.

Maybe we should also consider to move the link somewhere on the sidebar.

    Yes, please do !

I would have a lower post count if I had seen it there earlier.

Everyone here has been very kind and helpful with the info though.

    Thanks. :)

BTW, the IMAP settings posted at below link are working fine in my Thunderbird 17x on Windows XP, though it is necessary to select 'Manual Config', and to avoid asking TB to do any 'Tests' and 'Auto-Detection'.

    https://vivaldi.net/blogs/entry/how-to-move-your-email-from-my-opera-to-vivaldi-mail

I am about to adapt that tutorial, to use Thunderbird as a tool to import/migrate populated folders into Vivaldi Mail from accounts OTHER than My Opera, and will report my results in the appropriate thread.

    https://vivaldi.net/faq ….

As mentioned earlier, I have used the link in your post and it works.

But where is the current 'bottom of the page' link ?

I have examined several pages of the forum part of Vivaldi.net, and I see links for ToU and Privacy policies, but no FAQ link.

BTW, though I digress, has anyone else noticed that links in general on this site are difficult to notice and differentiate from ordinary text, in their current colour of 'grey', or is it just me ?

Any chance of making them blue, mayhaps something more like the current links to our profiles ?

  • Hello!
I noticed today that my profile and my photo albums can't be accessed if you're not member of Vivaldi.net (log-in required). I would like to know if you plan to keep the website hidden (Facebook style) or parts of our profiles could be made visible to the whole internet. Or this log-in request is just a temporary problem. I didn't touched any settings.
    Thanks!

By default your profile and photos are available to registered users only. You can change your privacy settings. Here is some information https://vivaldi.net/faq#personal

  • I know very well my settings, that's why I said I didn't touch them. In the end, mystery solved:
I had in my speeddial the following link:
    https://vivaldi.net/unity/profile/cezar
    and I was getting this:
    https://vivaldi.net/log-out
    Now you changed it to:
    https://vivaldi.net/community/profile/cezar
I'll update the bookmark. Sorry to bother you! And thanks for the answer!

    My Reply :

I think I found a typo while reviewing the FAQ.
Let me quote the section (located immediately above your linked part) :

How do I hide my age?
Go to My Profile which is the top item on the right side navigation bar
Hit Edit Profile button just below your cover photo
Scroll down to Detail and you will see a button next to your birthday
Click on the button, which allows you to choose from 4 different options
Default option is to share with registered users
If you want to now show your age to others, you can set it to Only me.
Hit Save at the bottom of the page.

If you read for logic, the line (where I have bolded and underlined the word 'now') makes no sense to the purpose of the section - in fact it seems to contradict.

If you change the word 'now' to 'not', then it does make sense.

One further comment about that area is that the Age and the other Personal settings seem to obey the same procedures, so would it not be better to combine both sections into only one in the FAQ, to be more clear, and hopefully save some words ?

Proposed Merge and Makeover for those two sections :
(Sorry, but the post editor does not seem to like the codes for 'Bullets'.)

    = = = = = [ START NEW SECTION ] = = = = =

How do I Show my Age and other Personal Information to others, or Hide these ?

By default, some of the information you provided at the time of registration can be seen by registered users only.

If you wish to change these settings, and show parts of your information to more groups of people (such as to non-registered users, for example), or to less groups, this is how (using your Age as an example) :

Log in to your Vivaldi.net account.
Click the My Profile link of the Account section, near the top of the right-hand navigation bar of most pages.
Your main Profile page should appear.
Click the Edit Profile button, located near your photo.
Your Account information/settings page should appear.
Scroll down to Details and you will see an icon or button next to your Birthday information.
Click this, and a menu will drop down, offering you 4 different 'permission level' choices :
~ Everyone (everyone on the internet can see)
~ Registered Users (only the registered users on Vivaldi.net can see)
~ My Friends (only your friends on Vivaldi.net can see)
~ Only Me (no one else except you can see)
The Default option for Age is to share it with Registered Users.
But if you do NOT want to show your Age to anybody, you could choose Only Me.

Please Remember to Click Save at the bottom of the page when finished.

Now, other users won’t be able to see your Age any more, if that is what you selected. It will still show on your Account info/settings page, because all choices still let You see that.

There are similar icons next to each other piece of personal info of that page, and each is adjustable in the same way.

    = = = = = [ END NEW SECTION ] = = = = =

  • js things on profile privacy settings don't function with Opera 11.5, had to use firefox to adjust …. odd for an Opera migrant site

  • @tatsuki:

Thanks, davesnothere. FAQ is updated now with your suggestion.

    Thanks for using my idea.

I also see that your web page editor app can do the 'bullets'. ;)

Your tweaks and format changes all work for me, except for a couple :

(and I seem to remember reading another post where you said that English is not your first language, so I understand)

Where you changed it to say 'additional members', this implies that the additional folks are a members of Vivaldi (who already can see the personal info by default), and this contradicts the point being made in that sentence.

Could we just say 'additional people' instead ?

And in the next sentence, where it now reads 'or to make it private', using 'it' implies singular for the plural 'parts' of info mentioned earlier, so in that case could I suggest instead saying 'or to make these items private' ?

And finally, the sentence which begins with 'scroll' - to be consistent in flow and readability, it would work better if it had its own 'bullet', yes ?

  • Hi how can i upload my photos on to here by using the mobile site?
