path to the bookmarks

  • Sorry for my English. The path to the bookmarks C: \ Users .... \ AppData \ Local \ Vivaldi \ User Data \ Default - firmly established? Is it possible to specify in the browser bookmarks on a different path? For example, a D : \ Program

  • You could use hard link to change the location of the Bookmarks file but within the same disk partition.

If you'd wish to move them to another drive or another partition, you need to use symlinks (symbolic links). Since symlinks work only for directories, you'd have to move the Default folder and all of its contents to another location and then create a symlink in the original location. Here's how to do that:

    1. Close Vivaldi.
    2. Go to %localappdata%\Vivaldi\User Data\
    3. Move the Default folder to another location, say D:\Vivaldi\Default
    4. Open Start menu, type cmd, click RMB (right mouse button) on Command Prompt (which should appear in the search results) and select "Run as Administrator"
    5. Paste this into the Command Prompt window (make sure to change the second path according to your preferences): mklink /d "%localappdata%\Vivaldi\User Data\Default" "D:\Vivaldi\Default" and hit [Enter]
    6. Now you can start Vivaldi. Assuming you did everything correctly, nothing should change within Vivaldi itself, but you just have your bookmarks, along with the (occasionally) SSD-eating Top Sites file (and others) stored onto another drive. 🙂
