[Resolved] Search box only takes me to search page - does not initiate a search
-
I have added Google encrypted as my search engine. when I enter search terms in either the search box or address box & press enter, I'm taken to the correct search engine but the search terms have not been filled in and no search was initiated. The settings for search are checked to allow searches from either box. ???

You made a mistake in the setup. The easiest way to set it up is to go to the site and to right click on the search field and click "add as search engine". This will copy the URL
https://encrypted.google.com/search?sclient=psy-ab&biw=1282&bih=670&btnG=Search&q=%s&oq=&gs_l=&pbx=1
to your search settings. You still will need to enable it as your default and/or set a nickname for it. -
@luetage Thank you!

@Sol2510 Most search engines have a description on how to implement them into the browser, so you could look it up. If you tell me exactly what you need I can take a look at it, but generally you should have the "add as search engine" function in your right click menu. What Vivaldi version are you using?

@Sol2510 said in [Resolved] Search box only takes me to search page - does not initiate a search:
I don't have "add as search engine" when I rightclick the search field from which I want to make search engine.
An example url of one of the "problem sites" might be helpful.
In Firefox I had plenty custom search engines added based on hobby/fan websites I frequently use, but all were created by this simple "add keyword for this search" and the browser only asked me for keyword. I would love to recreate them here but this is beyond my understanding of the fancy commands/urls needed to make them work.
I believe that "keyword" is known as "Nickname" in Vivaldi Settings - Search, Add Search Engine.
