Prime Video doesn't work on Vivaldi
Prime Video is (finally) available to every country outside of the US.
As a Prime user for many years, that's great, but there's a problem: it ain't working.
I've tested it on Firefox, no problem there.
I've read that it might be to do with some NPAPI plugin or some such, which Vivaldi seems to have stopped supporting a long time ago.
So, is there any hope of Prime Video ever working natively in Vivaldi? Is there any workaround?
@Narushima - It's unlikely that any Chromium-based browser will ever support NPAPI. It's being phased out around the world.
Someone should tell Amazon, then.
Amazon Prime Video uses an HTML5 video player but Vivaldi is not yet on their list of certified browsers. If your browser is not on their list, they prompt you to install the Silverlight plug-in.
I don't think there's any technical reason why Vivaldi shouldn't work.
Just loading forever for me. No prompt for silverlight plugin as suggested.
Works in Chrome so a bit surprising it doesn't work in Vivaldi.
Maybe it's just a matter of user agent not identified, other video player have similar issues with Vivaldi, try User-Agent Switcher for Chrome 1.0.43
@iAN-CooG I've already tried that, it shows different error messages for different user-agents, but the video won't load anyway...
I can also confirm that Amazon Prime Video seem to be broken in Vivaldi. I also tried to play around with different Chrome User-Agent strings, but no luck.
I am using Ubuntu 16.10 64 Bit.
Using Chrome on the same computer works fine. I also extracted the exact User-Agent string from Chrome and used it in Vivaldi ... still no success.
Yes, already known; bug was reported at end of december VB-24319.
Thanks for your reply, I wonder if it is really a bug in Vivaldi or some nasty routine in Widevine plugin that tells Amazon that you are not using Chrome no matter what User-Agent says.
@Hille I cant say which part is the problem.
Perhaps its is the Widevine DRM?
Please open vivaldi://components
Which one do you have?
Mine is Widevine Content Decryption Module - Version: 220.127.116.113
Same as in Chrome 55.
Now I am quite puzzled ... I tried to check version number but Widevine didn't showed off at all!
I ran a "dpkg -r vivaldi-stable" and installed it again afterwards.
Now Amazon works but Widevine is still not shown.
In Chrome it says version 18.104.22.1683
Now I am more than surprised!
Update: I tried vivaldi://plugins and it states out version 22.214.171.1246
Ok, if I run "chrome://components" it also does not show Widevine (in Chrome), you have to run "chrome://plugins/" instead. Now I am surprised that Vivaldi reports version 126.96.36.1996 while Chrome reports 188.8.131.523. Isn't it just a symlink to Chrome's library?
@Hille Oh, you work on Linux. I missed this becuase this is a Windows thread. No prob.
You can update Widevine with the button in vivaldi://components
and/or with Ruari Odegaard's bash script from https://gist.github.com/ruario/3c873d43eb20553d5014bd4d29fe37f1
As i see on Debian 8.6 KDE Vivaldi has no widevine entry shown in vivaldi:components, but i dont know why yet. I will check it tomorrow.
