Chromecast still does not work even with native Cast

  • I still have no luck to cast from Vivaldi to Chromecast connected to my home TV:
every time I select "Cast" from popup menu on page I see popup dialog with my device's name. After click on it -> always get error "Failed to cast. Please try again".

But Chrome browser casting works well.

Can anybody help with this issue?

    Vivaldi 1.5.658.3 (Official Build) (64-bit)
    Windows 8.1 Pro x64

@kayur Sorry, i got no answer yet.

Please, can you post a descriptive bug report, so developers can check it?

    @kayur Thanks for report.
I hope someone will have a look at this issue.
I have no Chromecast to test otherwise i would have confirmed the issue.

  • I just noticed the "Cast" option on a page.. the "Learn More" link from there goes nowhere. So.. does this require a Chromecast to operate? Or is there some app I can install on my TV to work with it? hmm..

You need a chromecast dongle and a wireless home network.
The dongle connects to your TV via a HDMI input and to your home network via wireless.
So basically you need the chromecast dongle, a wireless router and a TV with HDMI input.
(...and a PC or smartphone to set up the dongle's wireless connection)

Casting from my PC (Linux) doesn't work in any browser for me, but casting from my Android phone is very easy and reliable.
Highly recommended for streaming youtube or any web content.
You can cast from within apps that support casting or just cast your phone screen.

It's funny that despite having an Android OS based TV I'm still unable to cast anything from a Chromium based browser, while displaying content on that TV using the native Windows screen sharing functionality or WMP media streaming works like a charm (over a wireless network) without the need to buy any hardware or installing any additional software (thanks to DLNA)...

Perhaps that's a naive point of view, but Google's product don't seem to like each other, while they both work pretty well with "competitive" technologies... 😆

  • I think I should add notice: only casting from youtube.com works, trying to cast any other site failed.

Sad to see such behaviour in Chromium-based browser which supports Cast function natively. :disappointed_relieved:
