Setup failer on Win XP

  • Tried to install Vivaldi on my Windows XP.
    Getting error message in eventlog:
"The procedure entry point ReleaseSRWLockExclusive could not be found in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll."

Seems that you are using ReleaseSRWLockExclusive to release an opened file handle. This is available only on newer Windows versions, but due to your Web-page there are no Windows system reqirements. Thus WinXP should be supported (probably the only mature and safe system available fom Microsoft, quite new, from this, our century!)

You do not need to use this new MS API to open and close locked files, even if using the latest MS development environment. If you need help on programming issues, just ask me.
    Thanks

@ikrg - Current Vivaldi will not install on XP some of the early 1.0, 1.1 versions will, but no longer.

Vivaldi is based on the Chromium engine and Chromium dropped support for XP and Vista, so Vivaldi had to as well. They don't have the resources to re-engineer each new Chromium build to work on unsupported systems.

  • Have a look at https://vivaldi.com/download/, you can read: Windows XP/Vista Vivaldi 1.0.
You definitely need a newer OS.
But i remember there was some 1.1 Snapshots which worked with XP.

Yes - the first 2 or 3 1.1 snapshots worked on XP.
