BUG: Displayed Email not updated after change
-
Hi,
I've just changed my Email to my vivaldi.net address (finally it's possible!).
However, if I view my profile (by clicking on my user name provided along my posts) I still see my old address (see orange area).

Hmm,
has this being acknowledged as an "issue" officially? Or can this be confirmed by someone else?

@someone
It's hard to say, maybe it just needs time to update the view. Have you tried recovering your password? Sign out, click on login and then recover password. Vivaldi will send you an email. If you receive it on your new account the email change has worked, and that's what really matters. If it does this issue is purely cosmetic and doesn't pose an imminent problem. -
Hi luetage,
thanks for your reply.
I have done all you've suggested but haven't received any mail to either account at all. Will try again (*).
If it does this issue is purely cosmetic and doesn't pose an imminent problem.
I beg to differ here. Though it is indeed not an urgent issue, it means nevertheless a problem because it relates to my private affairs/data. And in the (today's) internet this is a very sensitive matter for me.
*Update: this time I've received an email to my new email address. So the display in my account settings are correct.
Consequently somewhere there must be a copy of the old data left. Maybe a cache hasn't been invalidated yet. Or the profile view is fetching the data still from the "old" data structure/database.

Yes, i can also confirm this. Last night i changed my email address to my V one like you did [& for the same reason; the old site would not let me], but when i now recheck after reading your post, i can see that in "Manage User Account" it correctly shows my V addy, but my Profile continues to show my old addy... Not Good!!
Devs -- help pls?

Any official statement on this?

My Email seems unchangeable.
How did you achieve that?
Thank you. -
@vias
Click on the three dots in your profile and go to edit. There you can change the email of your account. -
@luetage
I have tried.
But Email is the only uneditable field in that page (Manage User Account) of mine.
Maybe it's another forum bug? -
@vias
Doesn't work for me either, you are right. Can't even change passwords currently. Maybe they disabled it for the time being, who knows... -
@someone & all thanks for sharing this issue and sorry for taking so long to reply we're a small team handling a lot of feedback these days.
Currently both email and usernames are being used as unique identifier for you to log into your account for that reason we currently don't allow to change email address nor username. It may have been possible for you to do it 10 days ago during the short timeframe where we were setting it up.
But we're looking at some alternatives to improve this. We just can't promise anything at this stage yet.
Thanks for being patient with us.

The username change isn't important, but email providers come and go. What happens if my provider decides to cease operation, or if they have a change in policy and I don't want to use them anymore? It's certainly not a pressing issue, but we should be able to change account email at some point. That's a basic functionality in any online community. But thanks for clearing it up.

@gaelle
Hi gaelle,thanks for replying.
Yes I know the team is small.
As for the issue I'm completely with luetage. Frankly, it's not easily becoming obvious, why such a primary key approach is required in 2016. I would expect any professional user management system to have an (hidden) unique identifier unrelated to any labels/displayable information.
Of course, I'm staying patient. And it's easy to forget, I am a guest and using the platform I don't have to pay any (obvious) fee.
