Browsing without images - by default?
-
Is there a preference to browse without displaying (non cached) images, by default? Right now all I can see is that after a page has loaded we can disable images. Still fine, but by then we already loaded a bunch of them...

Thank you. It is something to consider, but unfortunately it is not exactly what I wanted.
(I keep forgetting about those chrome:// options, I wish it all gets into vivaldi://settings/)
As much as I tested, if I disable images on chrome://settings/content they are irrevocably disabled. The setting of Vivaldi images options, on the status bar, becomes irrelevant. We get no images, always.
The available setting, on the status bar Image settings, are, to show images, to not show images, to show cached images. The default for new tabs is to show images. I was asking if there is a way to change tat default to, say, show cached images.
(and we should have a similar feature for videos…? I guess I'll post on feature requests

Similar (same?) request was submitted ~2 years ago, and unfortunately this handy feature isn't yet implemented in 1.7.735.46

Just wanted to note this feature is still strongly desired. I just moved to Japan where my home internet has a data cap (this is apparently quite common in Japan since rural internet comes via the cell network providers rather than cable/fiber/DSL). I can watch the occasional YouTube video, but if I'm not careful can easily hit the limit in just a few days. I set Windows 10 to treat this as a "Metered Connection" to prevent Windows Update and so on from running until I'm at work or a coffee shop, but I'm bummed Vivaldi still doesn't allow setting a default to show cached images only with that easy option save a lot of unnecessary data use.
I also wanted to note a similar feature was requested in this Load images ? thread, in addition to the one AntonK linked from 2015 on image toggle default.
This feature was the primary reason my mom converted to Opera a decade ago, and it would be great to see it added to Vivaldi as well.

And on mobile (Android and iOS), this feature would be even better!
-
Considering it was a standard feature in old Opera (so nothing strange or new), it would be simple to just remember and honour the setting from the speed dial as your default (just like old Opera).
My moaning at QuHno over the years about this, he once said I should submit it as a bug.
I should have. -
Vote for Load Images and Settings

@Pesala I did. I'm fine with voting to whatever of the suggestions, but I wonder why a much more recent (similar) suggestion takes precedence.
That said, if they are similar (they are) then closing one is most likely best, to avoid duplication of efforts, and concentrate suggestions. So probably closing / archiving this one is probably best.

@rkzn That thread is in the feature requests forum; this one is not.
