Welcome to the Vivaldi Browser forum

Thank you very much for creating an alternative to users such as me. As an Opera user since the very earliest days (paying for the program and upgrades) until now, I am really happy to see what you are doing. I was looking for a replacement years ago for Netscape and Microsoft and Opera provided it. Then Opera's focus changed – for the worst in my opinion.
As Opera 15 and the subsequent releases started coming out, I would try them out and then I would return to release 12.14 and 12.17 over and over. With Opera's changes, I could not bring in my bookmarks, multiple tabs, etc., etc. Right now I use Opera 12.14 x32 as my primary browser and 12.17 x64 to access several sites that require the newer coding.
As Vivaldi matures, I really hope that I will be able to use just your browser for all of my internet needs and stop having to rely on several browsers to access some sites.
Thanks again for your work and efforts for those of us who don't follow the herd.

I was almost about to migrate to SeaMonkey, because there is no other "wholesome" web suite like Opera 12  … until I heard about Vivaldi. :woohoo:
Wish you best success.

I've just downloaded and installed Vivaldi on my laptop running Mint 17 64 bit and I am impressed! I've been a long time FF user from the days of it's predecessor Phoenix but have been finding FF sluggish of late. I look forward to being able to import my bookmarks and then hopefully use Vivaldi on my main computer.

Nice to see Opera spirit comeback
I've made Seamonkey my main browser but can't wait to see which direction Vivaldi takes. -
Congratulations on the test release.
I just grabbed it, and am looking forward to see the changes.I think can safely say "Don't expect an Opera replacement"
This is something new, that will hopefully have the best features of the competition, plus features they don't think are important to users. In my experience browsers either let you down with security features, or are too bloated with them.
Hopefully we can strike a sensible balance, and it will be the best at what it does.BTW. Did anyone else see the Vivaldi reference on this weeks "Security Now" ?

I think its all about user choice. Browsers as opposed to almost every other software are today all about not giving users a choice. This is a strange behavior in the browser industry.
Every piece of software is all about giving users a choice, but browsers are not. It seems they impose users what they thing is best for their daily use.
I hope Vivaldi builds on that major flaw and emptiness. Its all about giving users a choice. A browser is a very personal piece of software. You don't want tabs on the top, move them. You don't want a search box, remove it. You want a button in your status bar, put it there, you don't want a status bar, no problem.
Let users customize the browser so it fits their needs. Every user is different and so I think every browser will behave differently for every user. If you give users a choice, they can make their browser fit their use and not the other way around.
Its not about building another Opera 12 clone, I hope they use Opera as their basis only but evolve much more than that and give users customization options. This is what made Opera different from others + innovation features which where not available in other browsers.

Only one …suggestion... Maybe it would be easier for you, if you create some public bug/request tracker, it would be easier for not duplicating error reports.
I agree.

G'day Vivaldi team. Congrats on this first release.
I can only agree with the post of Dr Flay above.
For me, Opera was always about the flexibility provided for power users, the extensive customisation available via editing .ini files etc, and the simple fact that it used its own (Presto) engine - completely different to other browsers.
For me, the fact that Opera was always the browser with the least (usually zero) outstanding security issues was a HUGE bonus, along with the speed at which the Opera team addressed security issues.
For me, the built-in mail client was perfect.
As a long-time (since v3.2) and faithful user of Opera (including the paid-for versions), I was EXTREMELY annoyed (I can't say 'pissed-off' on an open forum, can I?) by the change of direction, and have stayed with Opera 12.7 ever since.SIGH. Vale Opera!
Now, I don't expect Vivaldi to be a continuation of Opera 12.7 … but if it could (in the future) include a lot of the powerful features of Opera 12 ... I'd become a very happy and faithful user of Vivaldi.
What I see in this Technical release is looking good.
I am, however, a bit wary of Vivaldi using the Chromium browser engine, though (if I've understood that correctly). It may mean a security flaw in Chromium will also be a security flaw in Vivaldi.I hope you clever people at Vivaldi can continue with the development of the Vivaldi Browser. I, for one, would be quite prepared to pay a subscription (as I did with Opera years ago) for a browser that works for me.
Best wishes,
OziIan -
I think that Vivaldi browser is great so far I just wish that Ghostery and HTTPS Everywhere and Privacy Badger and other privacy extensions worked properly so that advertisers couldn't abuse me like they can when I'm not using those extensions.

I'm very happy with this Tech Preview version of Vivaldi on Linux. I will be watching as the feature set build out in future versions.
I also look forward to future tablet versions of Vivaldi for both iOS and Android since I use both. I'd even be willing to buy the apps and the desktop version if need be to help development.
Thank you to Jon and the entire Vivaldi team for the browser and thank you again for giving us a couple of privacy oriented search engines right from the start.

Thank you. Just thank you.

Thank you, Grazie, Merci, Gracias,Danke Schon! :cheer:
Congratulations on releasing this Technical Preview. Very pleased to see it. I downloaded it and after a day of using it I am already impressed. Different, unique, fast, continuing what is good in Opera 12, but evolving with new features, this is what the new Opera should have looked like. Already I love it! Best wishes for future development.
I will leave suggestions for another post, after I have used it a bit longer, but for now it is enough to say "Great Job!"

I started using Opera in the mid to late 1990's and have always looked forward to updates to see what improvements and innovations the Opera team were implementing. When I installed Opera Blink, I was shocked and disappointed to see that Opera Presto and its dedicated users had been thrown to the curb in favour of the stripped down Opera Blink. I continued to use Opera 12.17 as my default browser but grieved the day when I would have to leave it behind. Fast forward to February 2015, and I am excited to learn that Vivaldi team by von Tetzchner has entered the browser fray and revived the spirit of innovation that made Opera Presto a great browser. There are really only two additional features that I would like to see implemented before I decommission Opera 12.17 and make Vivaldi my default browser: :
(1) completion of the mail client;
(2) speed dial keyboard shortcutsIt would also be nice to see the implementation of mouse gestures. (edit: I just realized that the two most important mouse gestures (page forward and page backward) are working … very nice!)
I congratulate the Vivaldi team and Jon von Tetzchner on their release of a great Technical Preview and I thank you for giving Opera Presto users like me a new home.

Your technical preview looks great.
I am disappointed by the evolution of the opera browser since Version 15, that is why I've tried out Vivaldi.
I stick to version 12 and appreciate functions like: mouse gestures, tab groups, saving sessions, fit to width, panels, notes and more. I am looking forward to have found in Vivaldi the outstanding 'old-school' opera browser experience combined with the latest web technology (HTML5, etc.).Thank you very much, for your effort.

It would be real good if this could be posted as a "Sticky Post-it" at the top of the Windows forum. Plus maybe a couple of links to your (Vivaldi's) mission statement and why Vivaldi cannot use Opera ASA's Presto engine.

I just want to express my gratitude for the work you're doing
Keeping fingers crossed for Vivaldi -
Best what I had in the last years. Thank you very much. I'm on Manjaro Linux, kind of Arch. Really beautiful. Have it now on all machines. Everything works. Much better than Chromium and Firefox. Maxdome works with html5 out of the box, without Silverlight. Quick, beautiful, real great work. Go on, I love it. Your browser is super and "just works fine and reliable"

You know that feeling when you rush up a flight of stairs and are expecting one more step than there actually is and you suddenly feel giddy and off-balance?
That was my welcome to Vivaldi: I open it for the first time and expect the usual ton of effort to get a browser working the way I want it…but there was no step there! It was as if some browser elf had snuck into my computer while I slept and created a default browser with many of the features and configurations I had sweat bullets setting up in Firefox or Pale Moon (or Opera, in another lifetime.) Right-stacked tabs with scroll navigation, instant dark themes, search box customization, and much more. And the fuel gauge on my CPU and memory stays well above empty, even as I dance nimbly around so many of the Chrome frustrations and arrogance.
What a treat and delight to see so much of the heavy lifting done for me. I still need to tweak some things before I can play my browser like a virtuoso pianist (right-click tab bar to close current tab, wheel-click to reopen recent tab, and so on), but Vivaldi shows so much promise and ingenuity that I see a bright future in my browsing experience!
