External content
-
Hi,
In my Yahoo emails, I am not seeing external content even though I checked the option to show external content. -
@Ron777 Showing external content is a sender specific flag, that is you can accept external content from your family, but not Amazon, for example.
It is not a general setting for all senders because external content, especially 1x1 pixel image called "beacons", can be used to track your every action with the email, including your geographical location
-
@yngve I have a couple of businesses I receive emails from that always fail to show images, even though I selected "Always show external content from <sender>", but only a couple (and yes, Yahoo provides email services for my ISP, but I doubt that matters). At a guess, perhaps they use javascript. The same messages display fine on my tablet in the Gmail app and of course in Yahoo webmail, which is why I believe it has nothing to do with Yahoo.
-
@sgunhouse Javascript is completly disabled in email display.
-
@yngve Which was what I was saying. If somehow they intended to have script display the message, then it would not work. Don't ask me why a busines - or indeed anyone - would think they needed to use javascript to display a simple message of text and non-animated images, but it is the one thing I know Vivaldi wouldn't allow and thus my first guess at the issue. Though of course it could be something else as I never tried to dig deeper. I'll need to sit down and view the raw message sometime to see for sure.
One of those senders always ends up showing an error message about 2 From addresses (which are actually the same except one is capitalized) and I always figure that error might be why Vivalri isn't showing me that sender's emails, but the other shows no such warning.
-
@yngve Sorry, looks like both of them are actually Word documents - why Gmail manages to display them on my tablet I can't guess. Why Vivaldi doesn't fall back to the "text/plain" version in such a case I also can't guess.
-
@sgunhouse If you have a email example (eml file) you can share, perhaps you can file a bug report about it, so we can take a look? (I am not on the Mail team, so can't promise a fix)
-
@yngve One of each? They're just weekly sales stuff, no account to have info in them about. Never saved an email from Vivaldi before but I suppose it can't be hard. I'll submit the report myself (later today, it is my bedtime now) and post the number here.

@yngve VB-117019, though I'll need to send the files yet.
