Edited spam title

  • I hope that there's a special university in hell for spammers, where they have to rewrite their thesis continuously without a break, but every time it gets deleted before they can submit it.

  • Starting from now, the first three messages a new user post will need to be explicitly approved by by a Mod.

An annoyance for both new users and mods, but better than dealing with tons of crap.

  • It's the method that we use on the High-Logic forums. It works well, as no one gets to see the spam except for me, and if a whole bunch of spam arrives while I am away, I can disapprove them all with just a few clicks.

  • Surely it works but requires additional work for moderators anyway, and may delay an important message, which is unpleasant for the users.

A required capcha for the first message posted would have been a way better solution, but can't be implemented easily/quickly here.

Indeed an annoyance, but the spam reduction that results will be (and is) enormously appreciated by all of us!

Yes. I had forgotten how labor intensive spam removal was. Spent over an hour on it last night (should have taken 15 minutes or less, but quirks in the forum software drag it out). I actually welcome the return of mod-approval of new users. It's less work, even though there are more posts to monitor.
