Chrome Trackpad Gestures
-
Just a quick question. Is there a way to have the Chrome "Back in history"and "Forward in history" (Two fingers swipe to the right/ to the left, respectively) on Vivaldi? I know there are gestures already to do this, but in Chrome I don't have to press down on the trackpad, in Vivaldi I do. I was wondering if there is a way I could change the Vivaldi gesture to match the Chrome one more closely, but if there isn't I'll just deal with it.

That's interesting. My MacBook Pro does not yet have a Force Touch trackpad, so for me, a regular two finger swipe works. I don't think there is a setting about this in Vivaldi; Have you tried changing some Trackpad settings in the System Preferences to see if that makes a difference?
Actually, I just remembered that someone recently told me that they turned off Force Touch in the System Preferences, because they found it a bit irritating and sometimes triggered it accidentally. So there is definitely an option for turning it off. That would only make sense for you, though, if you didn't use it anywhere else.

Update: I opened a new window of Vivaldi to "clear the clutter" of all my open tabs so I could have a clean slate for doing some work, and the Mac gestures work in this new window, but not in the old one. Somehow, the gesture isn't working on specifically one open window of Vivaldi. I must assume then that some Mac trickery broke the gesture for the one window, but not in subsequent windows. I also updated the name of the thread to reflect that it's a Mac gesture, not a Chrome gesture, that wasn't working. I also updated the Topic icon so it (hopefully) conveys that the problem is solved.
Also, thanks for the reply, and I'll think about disabling Force Touch, but I don't think it was the root of the problem. I think that the problem with having to click to use the Vivaldi gesture (instead of the Mac one, which requires only a swipe) is that I don't have tap to click on, I have to push the trackpad to register a click. I prefer that. I realized when I got the Pro that I hated having to be careful that I don't accidentally tap the trackpad and register a click, and I turned tap to click off. I also like the new trackpad- its new design means that it clicks with the same pressure everywhere, instead of easier at the bottom than the top. That pressure gradient was why I hated pressing to click (and preferred tap to click), but now I don't mind it! (P.S. I hate using emoticons, but I feel it's important to convey emotion in a context where I don't want to sound mean, critical, or unthoughtful.)
tl;dr: Mac trickery broke the gesture somehow on that specific Vivaldi window, subsequent windows worked with the gesture. Thank you for the reply, but I don't think Force click was my issue. Instead, it was probably that I have tap to click off that forced me to press down when I used the Vivaldi gesture. I like the new Mac trackpad. P.S., I hate emoticons.
