Add ALT+D as a default hotkey for "focus address field"…

  • Please add ALT+D as a default hotkey for "focus address field". Not simply because it is a standard across other browsers. But because this is superior than the existing Vivaldi hotkeys [F8, CTRL+L], due to the fact that it can be pressed with one hand, while both hands can still remain in the standard typing position and be ready to type. The current Vivaldi hotkeys require reaching, so they are less efficient.

NOTE: Adding it yourself is not as good. Because if it is an unofficial hotkey, there is a risk that it can be officially assigned to something else in the future. If that happens, we will then have to shuffle hotkeys around--which means more hassle. That is one of the reasons why I’m requesting it as an official hotkey.

You know you can add that shortcut yourself, right?

  • I agree. There is no good reason not to add this as a default shortcut key. It does not conflict with any existing shortcut, and is not needed to access the current menus. Many users transferring from other browsers will just expect it to work out of the box.

Submit the Feature Request via the Bug Wizard then you will know that it is logged and does not need to be repeated for each new version.

The fact that users can assign it themselves is irrelevant, as some users may need to install Vivaldi on many devices.

VB-15812 ALT+D doesn't activate Horizontal menu "Datei" in german

A good point, but it would also apply to activating the menus without the horizontal menu bar.

How do Firefox and other browsers deal with this in the German version?

  • Yes, please, please, please add Alt-D as an alternative to F8 to get to the URL field, as in every other browser. As a new Vivaldi user, I do this a dozen times a day as a reflex action and it's going to take me ages to remember to use F8 or a mouse instead!

  • Well well well! - go to Settings, Keyboard, Page, and you can add Alt-D to "Focus address field".

Nonononoooo! Wrong. Alt+D is not a standard on Windows for focusing a address field in a browser.
In german Firefox and IE 11 it opens the menu Datei.
On german Windows Alt+D means: open file menu.

if you need it, pelase add it yourself in Vivaldi.
