Vivaldi 7.1 RC 1 – Vivaldi Desktop Browser snapshot 3570.30/2

@Ruarí No, much stranger than that
These two Chains were switched to DuckDuck rather than what you see now. I use them by selecting text and then I have them entered in the PopUp Menu for right click on selected text. -
Did you perhaps change in the snapshot version and have sync enabled?
-
@Ruarí I don't use Sync and I've never loaded/run Snapshots. This was the offering here (RC1) Stable channel.
Edit: I'm running Debian12 and loaded it like an Update via Synaptic.

Has anyone here seen the prompt to switch search engines?

@Folgore101 That is why

Hello,
I had to reinstall the OS fresh and for some reason I cannot get Vivaldi to show native notifications again. The flag vivaldi:flags/#enable-native-notifications is gone too. It also does not appear in Win11's Notifications at all (Brave does, for example).
All I get is these old school notifs:
Any idea how to fix it back? Thank you!
-
@t0yz I remember that happened for me on 7.1 RC 1 with Standalone install.
-
@DoctorG Yeah I vaguely remember that too. However, this is a Program Files, for all users install on a fresh Windows 11 OS install too. Tried reinstalling over it again and notifs are still the old style. The app is not registering in the Windows notifications for some reason, missing from that list.
-
@t0yz I think you need to delete some entries in Windows Registry.
- Delete for each Windows user having the notification issue the values of key Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Vivaldi\ToastActivatorCLSID
- Delete Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Vivaldi\ToastActivatorCLSID
- Reinstall the 7.x with Advanced option For All Users
-
@DoctorG Sorry, didn't work
Got recreated, and it's in a different place for me too
-
@t0yz Seems to be this known bug:
VB-94343 "Native Windows Notifications do not work with an all user install" – Confirmed, dev assigned. -
@t0yz Sad, i would suggest to uninstall the Vivaldi (for all users) and install for each Windows user with Installer → Advanced → Type → Install per user. That should show the native toast notification.
-
I'm new to Vivaldi, and I just wanted to say thank you for the great experience thus far, and that it's great to see that things are still up and running and being updated! Keep up the great work, Vivaldi team! 🫡
-
@DoctorG Yeah I probably will do that, seems the bug is quite old, from October. Thanks a lot for looking into it!

Well the install per user doesn't show native notifs either now. Probably broke something or it picks leftovers stuff from the registry. Oh well.
We probably need a cleaner sort of app for these situations that purges all traces of an installation.
Weirdly enough, in the old OS install, same version, but upgraded over 2-3 years, notifs worked OK, but this fresh Windows/Vivaldi combo broke the notifs.
"fixed" it
Went through the registry and deleted some related Vivaldi stuff, including an entry that specified the location of the install on Program Files.
Installed per user in that annoying AppData\Local folder (whyyyyyy when we had Program Files for ages) after a reboot and now notifs are OK.So location of the install seems to be the issue? Seems to be required for Win11 to pick it up like this:
Without this, you are not gonna get native notifications.
