Possible to change (large) textboxes to monospace font

  • Hi, Can someone tell me if it is possible to make large textboxes use a monospaced font? What do I mean? Well, for example. I do a lot of editing on Wikipedia. When I edit with Firefox, it uses a monospace font when editing the source code. Vivaldi (and, to be fair, the Chrome browser it's based on) uses a proportional font. This makes editing a lot more difficult, and errors that much harder to catch. Is there a way to specify that monospaced fonts (a la Courier) should be used? Thanks!

  • Maybe chose 'Fonts Monospace' from 'Page actions' (statusbar, near zoom slider).

This is inconvenient and has too many side-effects considering the simple task at hand.

The OP is right. textareas should have monospaced font unless specifically told otherwise, as per most browsers' default CSS properties. It seems Vivaldi's browser CSS is doing this wrong – perhaps we should report a bug?

Thanks! While, as pwseo notes, doing so has too many side effects in that EVERYTHING becomes monospaced, I still must thank you because I had no idea of the existence of the Page actions area!

Here's hoping we can get this aspect of Vivaldi changed, in a way that "just works" without causing inconvenience.

No, Vivaldi does nothing wrong. All is fine.
If no font family is set in CSS for textarea Vivaldi uses monospace font, on my Windows that is Consolas.

    Which OS do you have?
Which URL where such strange things happen for you?

  • I'm on a Mac. This happens at Wikipedia, when editing the source code of any article.

Firefox uses a monospace font. Vivaldi does not. To my knowledge, I have not changed any settings that should affect this. Maybe it is a Mac-specific problem?

On Windows if i use the Source Code Editor of a Wikipedia article on Windows a monopace font used.

I will check this internally with the Vivaldi Devs.

Oh, yes Seems to be a bug heppen on Vivaldi with Mac.

Please be so kind to report this issue as a bug to https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/

  • Done. ID# VB-20586

Is it possible to move this thread to the Mac-specific forum (and update the subject line and icon appropriately, since it's not so much a question anymore but an established bug?)

    Certainly. Happy to do it.
