This update completely broke Vivaldi on both desktops I use it on. I cannot launch the browser on desktop without it hanging indefinitely, forcing it to be closed with the task manager.
This issue has occured again with the new update. I know of no other way to resolve it other than to delete the user profile entirely. I would like to use this browser, but it is impossible for me to do so when it shits itself upon every single update. Please fix this problem.

Blocking may be caused by antivirus solution or company environment? Or extension? Or broken browser profile (downgraded, crashes, file access rights)? Who knows.
Developers can not fix without bug report and steps how to reproduce.Please, if you need support/assistance open a new thread for your problem.

Is it possible to have the Vivaldi update process restart the browser with the same command-line switches used to start it originally? I'd like it to work that way henceforth as I've specified a non-default profile location and don't want a new profile created where it shouldn't be with each update.

@ecmarm maybe better to add an "update without restart" button to the dialogue box - I think that would be useful in several cases....

@mossman @ecmarm In such a scenario: just close Vivaldi manually, rather than the restart button, the update starts when Vivaldi closes, then reopen as soon as the update is completed

@yngve : Yes, I tried that approach yesterday -- closing the dialog instead of clicking the restart & update button. When I restarted Vivaldi (with the aforementioned switches), it simply restarted: doing Help|Check for Updates showed the same available update I had just supposedly downloaded. So I repeated the whole process and, guess what, nothing changed. When I finally surrendered and clicked the restart/update button, Vivaldi restarted as if I were a first-time user and I ended up having to delete the newly created profile folder in the wrong place I had been trying to avoid.
It seemed like a good idea but didn't work.
I still think Vivaldi should just be reusing command-line switches when restarting for an update.

Hence, I still believe it would be best if the restart could make use of the command-line arguments supplied when Vivaldi was started before the update.However, an option to defer the update until the next restart rather than doing it right away might be helpful!

@yngve : Alternatively, of course, there could be a way of specifying the location of one's profile folder (or the base folder for all profiles) from within Vivaldi, so that passing that information via a command-line switch wasn't necessary. That would avoid the problem -- at least for the case of profile location, though there might yet be other important information being passed by via switches that one might wish to preserve during update restarts.

@ecmarm Just to be on the safe side: Note that the update after the shutdown isn't finished immediately; it needs at least a few seconds to complete the operation in side the installation directory.

@yngve : I believe I gave it more than a few seconds, but next time I'll keep a close eye on things in Process Explorer.

I never see a restart button (turned off automatic updates some time a couple of years ago) - I either check for updates (snapshot) or click on the system tray icon (which pops up for stable, not for snapshot).
Sometimes I don't want to open Vivaldi afterwards (e.g. I know there's been a new stable release so I go round the house updating multiple machines).

Just updated, and I love the new roomier density, but don't like the floating tabs. Is there any way to keep the density while disabling floating tabs. CSS or otherwise? Thanks!
