Finally managed to catch the close tab button bug on a video

  • You probably remember some time ago I posted a topic reporting that bug with the close tab button which sometimes fails to appear? Well, I finally was able to trigger it and catch it on a video. The first two times it didn't work while the program was recording (HyperCam2) but this time it did. Here's a OneDrive link to the video: https://1drv.ms/v/s!AtdrOkP0E8vspTpzY1uJ0JFee3KS As you will see, the button was there on the first two tabs when I placed the cursor over a tab. But it wasn't there on the third tab. That's the bug I reported some time ago. When that happens, the only "fix" I've found is to minimize and then maximize the browser or to wait a minute or two before I can close the tab. There isn't anything specific I'm doing when the bug appears, so I can't say what's causing it. V version: 1.3.551.13.

Note: video doesn't play for me!?

  • I posted this bug long time ago and Vivialdi team just dont want to fix it. I kept bumping the post again and again but nothing yet.

I should have but I couldn't find it.

Note: what player and codecs do you use? I used Convertilla to compress it and it plays fine for me - KMPlayer with K-Lite Codec Mega Pack.

My mistake - thought it would play online, I didn't realise I had to download it :silly:

Vivaldi don't ignore bug reports. What was/is the Bug number for your report?

  • qbal, I doubt they would ignore a bug report. Maybe they're just determined to fix the major ones and they'll leave fixing this bug for a later time when the bigger problems have been removed.

  • Here is the original thread about this bug, I dont have the bug number. I posted this on 20 Dec 2015, its been 8 months.

Yeah. The sometimes-not-appearing close buttons has been an issue for over a year. I think there were two snapshots back to back that did not have the problem some months ago, but otherwise it has been unrelenting. I've always been able to get it to appear by sliding off the tab and coming back in from a different direction to hover it again, but there's always at least once or twice at day when I have to do that to get a close button.

Dont you think it needs to be fixed ASAP?

My personal opinion - it's a quite minor annoyance. Less important than other things they are working on.

I just had an idea which worked - even when the button doesn't appear: set a mouse gesture to close a tab by middle mouse click on the tab in question. ;)

There's also an option in Settings to close tabs on double-click.

  • There is a fix in Snapshot 1.3.551.17

Tab close misplaced after closing tabs with many tabs open (VB-20035)

Does that solve this problem for you?

  • Idk yet. After discovering the ability to close tabs with middle mouse button I had disabled the close button. Now I re-enabled it and I'll test it in the days to come.

  • Not for me, I saw it again today, with only one tab open.

  • Any update on this bug, it annoys me sometimes.

  • old annoying bug, please fix it

  • Yes, I usually have to swipe the mouse on/off/on a tab before I see the close button. It's very annoying!

I don't know what's causing it for you, I haven't had that issue ever and I'm using Vivaldi since around one of the first Technical Previews. I'm on Windows 10 x64/x86 and I have the "Align Next Close Button" option checked in settings all the time. IMO there should be a way to have the "close" button visible at all times because it's a huge annoyance on a touch screen devices...

  • I don't know about saudiqbal's set-up but in my case I'm using tabs at the bottom of the window (and menu items shown) - that's a UI set up which most other users don't have, so I guess that could be a reason for it...
