Snapshots
-
I'm just wondering in general what is the best way to migrate settings from a stable to a snapshot version, or is it better not to? In my case at the moment I'm running Linux Mint 17.3 - I have V 1.2.490.43 () (64-bit) stable installed, and last night I installed the V vivaldi-snapshot_1.3.551.13-1_amd64.deb file. It did not update my stable - it created a 2nd install it appears. Just wondering if any of you long time V users have advice, or can point me to a FAQ about the snapshots. I did a search before posting this, just didn't find much info. Thank you!

You should be able to copy over your profile.
There should be a folder for your Vivaldi snapshot profile and one for your Vivaldi profile.
I think it is under:
~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot
~/.config/vivaldiSo, the contents of the vivaldi folder to the vivaldi-snapshot folder. It might not be 100%, but you should get most of it. Extensions might need to be re-installed.

It's perfectly safe [desirable, even] to copy these from one to the other:
- Bookmarks
- Current Session
- Current Tabs
- Custom Dictionary.txt
- Favicons
- History
- Last Session
- Last Tabs
- Notes
I suspect you will feel pretty "sad" however if you copy "Preferences" from Stable to SS, or vice versa. Even after a couple of SS to SS upgrades [i've been using it since Feb 2015] it is a common experience that V can begin to operate quite flakily, ultimately requiring starting a clean profile, one key file of which is this "Preferences" file. Expecting this file to give you a happy V experience if you recycle a Stable one to SS or vice versa, is likely to only end in tears.

Thank you both for your tips! I will be sure to read the linked information on Profiles.
