Hello, I am also unable to connect to.
On my mopn yahoo account, the obtune error is: "failed to fetch"
I have this problem with a Fedora 40 Cinnamon as well as on an Alma Linux 9.
        Important to note:
        with the version:

Vivaldi 6.8.3381.53 (Stable channel) stable (64 bits)
        Revision c703aba8689f98dfc36a017440f3a6765f5e6141
        Operating system Linux
        JavaScript V8 12.6.228.30
        User agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/126.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
        Command line /usr/bin/vivaldi-stable --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end --save-page-as-mhtml
        Path to executable /opt/vivaldi/vivaldi
        Path to profile /home/'USER'/.config/vivaldi/Default

everything works perfectly, on Aloma Linux 9 and Fedora 40 Cinnamon.
The problem occurs when upgrading to version:

Vivaldi 6.9.3447.37 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit)
        Revision 6923341966265dac6a8ac55dfa1cd67cbff52be8
        Operating system Linux
        JavaScript V8 12.8.374.24
        User agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/128.0.0.0 Safari/537.36
        Command line /usr/bin/vivaldi-stable --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end --save-page-as-mhtml
        Path to executable /opt/vivaldi/vivaldi
        Path to profile /home/'USER'/.config/vivaldi/Default

Downgrading to the previous version allows normal operation (after creating a new user profile).
        This is a big problem...
Thanks in advance for your help and corrections.
        Kind regards.

            Mailbox doesn't exist: Archive (0.001 + 0.000 secs).

To "fix" that problem, I created an Archive folder on the mail provider that was causing the problem (from the log).

But then the same error happened for other folders...

            Mailbox doesn't exist: [Gmail]/Tous les messages (0.001 + 0.000 secs).

...on the same provider, Infomaniak (address with @ik.me), so how is it supposed to have a Gmail folder ???
I tried to create such folders, in and out of the parent one, the issue persisted.

I got so annoyed that I decided to install Thunderbird. Long time no see. Last time I used it, it was at least one decade ago. Very sad to have to drop Vivaldi email client.

Hello, I just want to clarify in response to the message below, that I also have two other email accounts, one at Orange ([email protected]) and another at Vivaldi ([email protected]). These two accounts work normally with version 6.9 of Vivaldi.

FWIW it is likely that in the past your email service was provided by Google and when that ceased your provider moved the mailbox to [GMail]

Thank you guys for all your reports and your patience, we are working hard to figure this out. Unfortunately we haven't been able to reproduce this.

We're wondering if anyone could turn on IMAP logging in the Mail Settings and post the error here?

What we'd be looking for is "Listing mailboxes..." and the following list of paths, something like this:

                  Listing mailboxes...
                   C: W5 LIST "" "*"
                   S: * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/" Archive
                   S: * LIST (\HasNoChildren \Trash) "/" Deleted
                   S: * LIST (\HasNoChildren \Drafts) "/" Drafts
                   S: * LIST (\Marked \HasNoChildren) "/" Inbox
                   S: * LIST (\HasNoChildren \Junk) "/" Junk
                   S: * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/" Notes
                   S: * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/" Outbox
                   S: * LIST (\HasNoChildren \Sent) "/" Sent
                   S: * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/" Test1
                   S: W5 OK LIST completed.
                   C: W6 LSUB "" "*"
                   S: * LSUB (\HasNoChildren) "/" Archive
                   S: * LSUB (\HasNoChildren \Trash) "/" Deleted
                   S: * LSUB (\HasNoChildren \Drafts) "/" Drafts
                   S: * LSUB (\Marked \HasNoChildren) "/" Inbox
                   S: * LSUB (\HasNoChildren \Junk) "/" Junk
                   S: * LSUB (\HasNoChildren) "/" Notes
                   S: * LSUB (\HasNoChildren) "/" Outbox
                   S: * LSUB (\HasNoChildren \Sent) "/" Sent
                   S: * LSUB (\HasNoChildren) "/" Test1

...and "Opening [path]..." where the path is one of those trouble makers that cause the error. Normally it looks like this here but you'd see a "non-existence" error:

                  Opening Test1 ...
                   C: W9 SELECT "Test1"
                   S: * 0 EXISTS
                   S: * 0 RECENT
                   S: * FLAGS (\Seen \Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Draft $MDNSent)
                   S: * OK [PERMANENTFLAGS (\Seen \Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Draft $MDNSent)] Permanent flags
                   S: * OK [UIDVALIDITY 248] UIDVALIDITY value
S: * OK [UIDNEXT 1] The next unique identifier value
                   S: W9 OK [READ-WRITE] SELECT completed.

Had the same issue when I did the update. All kinds of error messages re: Mail.

                    • I cleared everything but password using Ctrl+Shift+Delete,
                    • Cleared History
                    • and used File > Exit to close V.

When I restarted it a few minutes later All was loading correctly but one error. Email settings were not there. Simply reconnected to V's email with my username and pw and I watched it set itself up in the Status bar.
                    All was fine after that.

I already had IMAP logging on (though I didn't know it). How do I get to the log, though? I haven't been able to find any log files in my .../me/AppData/Local/Vivaldi places.

And once I get to it, what would you like me to do?

Obviously, I'm not very scholarly about this type of thing, but I'd be glad to try to help.

                        1. open Mail status

                        2. Click cogwheel and select "View Log"

                        3. in the dialog that opens, at the top choose "console". Scroll down a little, not too far after initial establishing of the IMAP connection you'll finde the communication about listing of mailboxes.

I'm not sure why these steps should be obvious to anyone šŸ™‚

Usually on Win11 running Vivaldi Snapshot builds. Opinionated about working efficiently with email. Folders are evil | Mail workflow: receive, read, reply, mark as read, done.

Here's a log that I got from just opening the mail icon on the status bar (the one at the bottom of the screen. I think it's overall pretty useless except to prove that Yahoo is most of my trouble. My usernames are concealed with #'s.

Then I finally did what @WildEnte suggested with opening that envelope icon in the status bar and going to that sprocket.

I got a snippet that probably isn't useful either. I was unable to select much to copy from that fast-moving stream, and I still don't know where log files are kept. For what it's worth, here it is.

I have seen some error messages. From opening that envelope icon in the status bar and choosing Accounts, I think some of the error messages are because Runbox drops the connection every 12 seconds or so and then starts up again. Yesterday I thought I was actually missing some important mail on Runbox, but it turned out to be errors by the sender and I don't think I've actually missed anything.

I couldn't find where are the "Listing Mailboxes" log that @gudmundurg74 asked for. I think I have proven that I'm incompetent at this, but if there is anything else that anybody wants me to try, try I will.

@mourningdoves thanks already form coming this far! This debugging stuff is tedious work, and it's highly appreciated that you dive into it and support as the bug hunt as far as you do!

The logging will be continuous but if you click and drag the scroll bar at the right side you should be able to go anywhere further up, and then the thing should just stay there. The list commands should show shortly after the connection is initially made.

Usually on Win11 running Vivaldi Snapshot builds. Opinionated about working efficiently with email. Folders are evil | Mail workflow: receive, read, reply, mark as read, done.

Hello, I come back to this problem, I stay on the case of the fixed computer.
I deleted my Yahoo.fr account (after having made a copy of the Vivaldi files present in .conf and .cache), I closed the Vivaldi browser then I restarted it.
I then tried to re-create my Yahoo.fr account.
First of all I tried to use OAuth, unfortunately without surprise I had the error: "Failed to fetch".
I then tried to create the account using simple password authentication, I got this error "LOGIN Invalid credentials"
As for the manipulations proposed by WildEnte in this post: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/100605/v-6-9-mailbox-doesn-t-exist/38
I had the same results as mourningdoves in his post: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/100605/v-6-9-mailbox-doesn-t-exist/40
I did not consider it useful to clutter the topic further.
I hope that this very modest contribution will help developers a little.
                                Thank you for your work.

Hello mib2berlin, I tried with a simple password.
Indeed with the application password it works perfectly again.
I thank you very much for your wise advice.
I wish you a very good end of the day.

@WildEnte , I'll keep plugging away when I have a block of time here and there. No problem, Vivaldi is amazing so if I can help, I'll try.

@JulesMarie Yahoo and AOL no longer allow the use of the regular account password to access Yahoo and AOL Mail, when using a third-party client. Either an app password generated in the account's security settings, or using OAuth, should work.

This change was effective October 2020.
