Features requests for 1.4
-
I second this. I have been using Vivaldi as my main browser now for a little over a month ad there is still just too many quirks.
Navigation bugs (history skips, lost pages etc), GUI bugs and some random weirdness.
I'm sticking with it for a while, but mostly due to the sad state of browsers this day and age, and I'm hoping this will grow into something. As for a more specific feature request:
Remember zoom settings per domain.Kind of tiresome to zoom in frequently visited sites every time I visit them.

- Change thubnail by it's own in speed dial by some easy way like right click or in bookmark page. Now it is possible to do it via this thread "Customising your Speed Dial thumbs"
- finishing URL in adress bar into index page like if I write "viv" I want get suggestion of "vivaldi.net/". Now you get only recent visited long URL or bookmark one (read more here)

Please add the ability for a search term to match word boundaries ("Match whole word") when doing page search. This is a feature I really miss from the good ol' Opera, since it drastically affects the usability of page search.
It would also be great if you added a page search option to toggle regex search.

Here's an idea:
I use "Use Tab Zoom", and it's great, BUT…
There could be another option after that: "Inherit Zoom Level From Parent Tab", meaning, when i use "open in new tab" or "open in new background tab" on a page, the new tab would initially inherit the zoom level from the parent, and after that not affect the parents zoom levels. And here's why:
I love that they are not bound by domain or whatnot, but, i do use zoom for many news sites, where i just read the front page and open topics in background tabs that i want to read, would be great to have the same zoom level on those initially, and if i do need to zoom in one page for zome reason, it still wouldn't affect the others after opening. -
When I right click and select "Open in new tab", the new tab should open in the background, and I still want to remain on the page containing the link, as when clicking while holding cmd/ctrl. Or at least I would want to have the option under Preferences. For those used to chrome and firefox, it can be really annoying!
Thanks -

ThanksThat option may yet be offered. In the meantime, one can open the link in a new tab in the background by selecting "open in background tab" from the context menu, or middle-clicking, or Ctrl+Click, or using a mouse gesture. So there are four ways to do it, plus you have the added advantage that you can ALSO, if you wish, open the new tab in the foreground, which Firefox and Chrome cannot do.

I would add contextual help to preferences to people can easily understand how to make things work. For example, I could not find a way to add a website containing search as a custom search engine (does not offer the option on right click, for some reason). I am pretty sure there is a workaround to that, it would be useful to see some documentation.
Searching the forum doesn't seem to provide much insight, I tried to look at the forum and I only found discussions in Russian. Thanks for your efforts! -
Thanks for the prompt reply, it's good to know. The reason why I stopped using cmd + left click is that 1) it's sometimes disabled by programmers who are allowed to override the browser functionality, for reasons that are out of my comprehension 2) sometimes it doesn't work and opens the new page in the existing tab. I will try and see if it's better with Vivaldi. Having that option in preferences would definitely be a plus. Please provide more contextual help in preferences. For example, what does "Show tabs cycler" mean? I had to google it to find the answer, and actually it doesn't seem to work on my machine.

I am really disappointed to find out that there isn't an easy way to add custom search engines. This feature is tremendously useful and very easy to setup in Firefox, and if I don't find a way to do the same in Vivaldi, I might switch back. The way it works in Vivaldi seems to be even more complicated than in Chrome, and there's no indication in the preferences to help find out how that works. Preferences in general have no contextual help at all. I tried to look at the forum and I only found discussions in Russian. Vivaldi was presented as a user friendly browser, it's not. Still a lot of work to do, because Vivaldi is NOT user friendly, I am sorry to say. Is it so difficult to explain how to use create a custom search, so I can type "img" and find results on bing images directly? Why do I have to search the forum to do that? Even better, make it as easy as it is on firefox, please. Doesn't seem like a tremendous amount of work to me, but it's an essential feature that a modern browser should have.
Right-click in the search box on the desired engine and select "Add as Search Engine."

@The_MacChen:
Is there a way to customize the new tab window? I'd love to use some of the chrome extensions like My Met or Earthview when i open a new tab. Or in Opera there are those animated new tab backgrounds that are really beautiful.
I would also love a pocket-like feature similar to that in Firefox or the Chrome extension "One Tab" that could sync across devices or with your account.
When is 1.4 coming out?
Install the extension you want to use and then assign the address chrome:newtab as the New Tab Page in Vivaldi (under settings/tabs).

Please add the function for simultaneous scrolling of pages displayed in vertical or horizontal, for example, when holding certain keys and moving the mouse wheel is moving parallel site. Suitable for example for comparing the specifications of laptops etc.

A feature from chrome that I really miss in Vivaldi: tabs that are draggable between windows (i.e. I can detach a tab from a browser window, attach it to a new or existing one). Currently I have to right-click a tab select Move to->Window which is somewhat cumbersome.
-
Also an ability to refresh all open tabs would be nice (i.e. right-click any open tab -> Refresh all open tabs). I have to install a third-party extension just for that.
-
It would be super cool if user can set up following:
1. start typing in address bar and browser opens result in new tab
2. find text on page when user just starts typingI was looking for these two features in settings but did not find. If they exist, pls point them out.

Since Vivaldi 1.4 is now released, I presume that this thread will be locked and a new one created: Feature Requests for 1.5.
So, hold your horses before posting here. Your FQ is likely to get buried.

The option to round certain things, so that for example I can have a rounded search bar and tab corners, but a square new tab button.
I included a photoshopped example

I don't think it's worth their time to implement such options for every element of the UI… you can achieve that via CSS editing now, i'm just hoping they make the editing of CSS/JS files easier (as in officially supported), so people can more easily share such customization for others.

@bruce_one:
"Enable Keyboard Shortcuts" quick command.
This already exists: Settings, Keyboard, Page.

Please continue on the new 1.5 thread, thanks
