@Anomalocaris With 6.8.3381.53 Win 11 i tested staring by desktop shortcut with your command line parameter.
After vivaldi://restart or Restart-for-Update button in address bar the process still has the command line parameter, checked in Help → About and with Sysinternals ProcessExplorer.

@shadowleaf15 You guess correctly. Chromium and thus vivaldi encrypt several data with machine/user ID so is not real portable. No plans to implement that I know. Most profile folders are simply not decryptable if you plan to re-use the profile on another machine/user.

I would also very much appreciate such a feature.
It is kind of a hassle to re-setup my base bookmarks, extensions, sidebar, download location, Etc.

I typically end up setting up a semi-temporary profile for games I am playing or hobby projects I am doing in depth research on.
being able to more easily treat profiles as disposable would be very nice.

I would love this feature. For now, I'm using the macOS App Choosy which lets you open urls in specific browsers / browser profiles. Not 100% the solution I want but it's actually useful for some other use cases that I have.

I am aware of the IMAP solution. However I strongly prefer to have my e-mails saved locally, so that's why i proposed the solution. Being af former programmer I think it will not be a very complicated task to implement.

I have used the methode with Thunderbird for several years, but for some reason it does not work any more, to be understood as follows: I can read e-mails in Thunderbird from Windows (10) without problems. I can then boot under Linux (Mint and Fedora) and read e-mails without problems, but when I successively boot under Windows again Thunderbird seems to have lost information on which mails have been downloaded, because it simply downloads the whole inbox from the provider.

I would love this feature to come to Vivaldi. I understand why something like Firefox's Container Tabs isn't possible with how Chromium based browsers work. This is a good alternative to that. It would be even better if there was an option to synchronize things like extensions across profiles while keeping things like cookies isolated (if somebody wanted but not required). That's a pain point on Edge (which I use now only because Profiles like this don't exist in Vivaldi), where I have to go in and re-setup all of my extensions and security/privacy settings on each individual profile.
