@kindofscsi said in Modify update location to avoid conflicting with Enterprise policies:
//MODEDIT: Added inline code blocks for better readability
I have tested the installer on a fresh Windows 10 Install with the SRP via GPO. The installer is in fact directly affected by this as well. This would mean that any Enterprise that has deployed Temp directory Executable disablement via SRP will not be able to install the Vivaldi browser.
Exclusions for Vivaldi cannot be made in advance due to the dynamic directory structure used in both the installer and the updater.
I could switch to that then.
I merely wanted to suggest benefits to check for an additional location, making ~/.local/bin an option if it exists (identical to conditions for ~/bin).
There should (now) only be little additional code required while usage patterns (for users) are identical.
The alternate location allows users to keep their $HOME tidy (independent of the standard being defined by systemd).
The ~/.local/bin content is already expected to be available for and modified by other (user install) software.
ModRequest, @ruario: would it be possible/desired/prudent moving the content since post 241376 to the script topic?
You maybe want to upvote this feature request to build a portable Vivaldi version.
As for the portable use of the standalone version - I use it also for the computers at work so I always carry a thumb drive around with a standalone version. But every time I put a new one on an usb stick I install it on a pc as a standalone in a folder only for this purpose - configure it to my likings and ad µblock origin (as this extension will still work if you copy the whole thing) next I copy it to the stick.
Regarding the "read only" problem your usb stick shows you - is the read only part for the whole usb stick or only for the vivaldi folder on it? If it is only for the vivaldi part this might be the update-notifications that is running. You can disable it in Settings --> Update --> untick the only available option try again do delete

Same here. Uninstalled Telegram and everything started working.
This is not a solution.
Well it's more than enough just to close down Telegram for a while to update your Vivaldi. Works every time for me since the discovery of this workaround.
