Also, is there any reason why below js code doesn't work on startup?
AFAIK the load event only exists on window.
@rrx I find your post far more offensive than a suggestion for a workaround to save a lot of coding and debugging. If the suggestion is not helpful to you, then ignore it, and carry on debugging. To despise a person for making a comment with good intentions is foolish, just because the comment is unhelpful to you. It might be helpful to others who come looking for solutions.
This is the modifications forum, so kudos to those who dedicated their free time to innovate, but time is precious, so why duplicate in the Address Field what is already available in the Search Field?
If the purpose is to save space on the Address Bar, showing the search as a button uses very little.
This forum, it's all here.
I don't understand anything about CSS or JS, but I've found anything i need/like here. Well, with a some try'n'error. It might need a bit of work, but if you're intrested enough...
That's what I was afraid of. When I looked into it and saw it calling "vivaldi.whatever" commands, I figured I would be dealing with API things that extensions might not get access to.
As far as updates go, I use the mod manager, but something that I don't need to remember each time would just be way more convenient.
(And just to note, I know some JS, and have hacked my way through modifying code many times in the past, but this particular use case would have required some learning for sure. I was willing to put in the effort if it was even possible, though.)

@nomadic dude99 sent me here with this issue I'm having with his CSS mod since you've taken it over. Any ideas how to go about fixing this?
I'm having an issue that pop downs from extensions kept in the address bar aren't clickable in the region of the toolbars with this mod. I have a couple of extensions which have buttons in this area which aren't clickable, which makes the extension unusable. (For example adding an account to bitwarden, the add account button is completely inaccessible).
I have the same problem as well.
In the feedbro reader and also other addons.
The first two lines from the menu can not be selected.
@pesala said in Auto hide bookmark bar:
but it is clearly quite a complex task with so many different user setups to consider.
Not quite true, for most of the underlying code for various setup are already there, this mod actually can be done with much simpler solution. I made an alternative mod that fit with most if not all existing setup in less than 1 hour: https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/502395
So, it's really not hard to add floating autohide bookmark bar (or tabbar & addressbar), it just a matter of "principle" for V team to implant something so unorthodox, (G)UI that's not foolproof for normies. Hidden GUI is kinda a taboo in application design, because normies only love buttons & toolbars that they can see in plainview.
Example: the hidden Start button in win8 most Win user loathe for no good reason; or the hidden Startbar below the Addressbar in Opera Classic that newbie doesn't understand because it's not in other major browser. Similar situation with Panels & switch, normies are just too dumb to appreciate innovative UI that require a bit of effort to learn.
Basically, the problem is Vivaldi just don't have the resources like Google, Apple, MS, or Firefox to promote their "new & innovative features" to the public. LOL
@luetage I know I can hide favicon, but then on hover the text moves to the right because of tab close button...
What do you mean by that your mod doesn't survive session? I don't close my browser at all 😛
@rdewolff This is much more elegant than I used to have years ago.
One thing though, I like to see the icons for the panel, gives me something to aim for. So I can set the opacity of the non-hovered container to 1, that's fine, and I can change the width of it easier enough. But how do I shift the webpage content over by the same width as I've reserved for the panel bar?
@dude99 said in See No Evil "about:blank" Blank Page CSS mod:
@streptococcus Many Thanks. installed & testing it right now...
EDIT: So it suppose to just overlay the entire page with a grayish filter? That's pretty disappointing, cuz it make me feel like a blind man after starring at the screen for too long. LOL
It might be a good night filter or in the dark room, but not very useful in during daylight.
That was why I changed the colours in the script. I changed the dark colours (B) all to 0, 0, 0 to make the text black, and changed the light colours (W) to 225, 223, 220 to get just the right amount of dimming.
@luetage - thanks - theres always a way - more work on updates but just delete the strings from the language file or bundle.js
i only want the strings from the left nav buttons not to show so not a lot of work
@stardepp Nah... Im just a script kitty. LOL
There are much about CSS I still don't know of, especially the newer features... Im falling behind a lot lately, but too lazy to get back into learning new stuff. rolleyes
