My expectations come from Otto tabs, an extension made by a former user of this forum that auto group tab stacks by domain:
Looks pretty straightforward. The github code is rather short, less than 400 lines. Borsini did a really nice job, clean and well organized. I don't fully understand the desired behavior yet of "tab stacks by domain", but I'll look into it more.
My question for you is: have you tried quicktabs extension? It may help.
I don't need to group or stack tabs, because quick tabs lets me switch to any tab easily. 5 amazon tabs scattered across 3 windows? No problem, type "amazon" to see title and url of every amazon tab open in your browser.
Personally I much prefer this style over "put all stackoverflow tabs together". My tabs are grouped naturally by topic: 3 tabs on stackoverflow and python docs about HTTPServer timeout handling, 4 tabs on SO and pydocs about ForkingMixin, 5 tabs SO and pydocs about multiprocess manager, 4 tabs on SO about strange pickle errors, etc.
Putting all SO tabs together makes them out of context. When I want to go back to the Forking Mixin issue, I quick tab back to the forkingmixin pydoc page and have the related SO pages right next to it. And it's no extra organizational effort on my part. Tabs are just naturally opened next to related topics by opening links or doing searches in new tabs.
Anyway that's my workflow. I know it's not for everyone. I'm comfortable with a "messy" browser and scattered tabs. Quick tabs helps me find what I need quickly. You might give it a try to see if it suits you.
