Vivaldi browser feature requests poll
-
Hi everyone,
Thank you all for testing Vivaldi and giving us valuable feedback so far! We are excited about the response we are getting every week for our snapshot release.
Our current focus is to fix as many issues as we can as quickly as we could possibly fix.
There are also many features we want to implement but we have gotten many feature requests through various channels. So, we compiled a list of all requested features and made a very quick survey to get your feedback. This would help us better prioritise our work.

Great poll.
I hope, however, that certain functions, if implemented, may also be disabled in the options, for example the tabs scrolling (if many) is just annoying and useless, because there is also a preview of the tab⦠-
No mention on private browsing in the poll .. I'm sure it is a pretty hot topic ..
-
Ah, it is probably ( hopefully ) in progress. I missed that detail .
-
It's really interesting to see how different users really are so far winning features doesn't really make any use to me

- Theres already an excellent rss reader called smartrss for opera extension. Once Vivaldi open up extension, rss reader should work on it as well, so I don't think you should spend time on the rss reader, but on extension.
- lots of ppl voted "Not completed or Not displayed". Whats this exactly?
- ALOT of these feature requests will go away once extension is available. This allow you to focus on things that extension can't provide and less ppl nagging for vivaldi's own version even if a version of it could be found in extension e.g I wouldn't mind vivaldi own rss reader, but I wouldn't be in a rush for it since one is available in extension already

Looks like bookmark sync - is sore point for Opera/Vivaldi users
But there is no support of extensions. "That cannot be implemented in the nearest future"? Some request features temporary can be done via them (RSS reader, link selection,..). -

Private browsing already in progress

Impressive rate of improvement from the Vivaldi team; well done! Also, thanks for opening the feature request poll and generally being open/honest with users.

theres one feature that I like to request, youtube only play one tab at a time and if you switch tab the youtube will stop playing and will only play when you focus on it. An extension called youtube center used to provide this feature but they haven't been updated in a long time its been buggy
-
I was missing the 'new tab' mouse gesture feature. So I voted something else instead.
-
Are you kidding me ?! How are we supposed to pick only three ?
I really hope that it's a TODO list, and the survey is only for prioritizing it.
Because, that is a very good list of wanted functionnalities !EDIT : Oh and BTW, I hope you know you'll have some bias : the order of the proposed items matter, as the language in which the survey is proposed (for non latin URL for example) and the phrasing of the items (what is P2P functionnality ? Is that bittorrent ? Or TOR ?).

You need to keep in mind, that Vivaldi and current Opera are built on chromium. This means every extension eats around 50MB of RAM + some (sometimes the same amount) of swap. Being able to (for example) text-select links in the middle is achievable by extensions, but wasting so much memory just for this?
You are right - extensions are important, because they can be a "quick fix" for missing features, but using "A LOT" extensions (as you mentioned) will eat a lot of memory. Adding the fact Chromium has many memory leaks - it's better not to install more than several extensions.
-
I also think that 3 of them isn't enough, but well - this IS for prioritizing and from what I understood from blog post - all of these will be implemented.
Also - I'd like to sort them by myself than just selecting 3 of them - this would give far more accurate results, but we know - only 1/3rd of ppl would complete it if they have to sort it. Or they'd leave most features unsorted and Vivaldi team would get false reports.
-
Site-specific features should not be a part of browser core!
-
How about customizing hotkeys? It's number one of my private missing features list.
-
Ilya's note applies here.

Just FYI.
We will take for implementing a few most popular feature requests from this list. All the rest requests will be added to the next poll. Don't worry -
That depends on the extension. I have written a few of them that don't need ANY permanent memory.
