Why return download page address when copy download address in download panel !?
-
I feel like I use a casual browser, why did dev team do this ? I'm usually copy download address to other download software when download size's more then 500 MB but since the change of this I have a hard time with many problem download like disconnect and unresumeable download, very slow download. Please, I use this feature like a breath, I can't continue to use Vivaldi browser for long without this feature. Vivaldi: 1.1.453.59 (Stable channel) (32-bit) Revision: c26c0312e940221c424c2730ef72be2c69ac1b67 OS: Windows Blink: 537.36 (@c26c0312e940221c424c2730ef72be2c69ac1b67)

For me, it copies the address of the downloaded file so I can just download it again.
For example, download one of my free fonts from my fonts page, then copy the download address from the Downloads panel. This is what I get:
http://www.softerviews.org/Cankama.7z
Or, download 7-Zip 64-bit form 7-zip.org and copy the address:
http://www.7-zip.org/a/7z1602-x64.exe is what I get.

Hi Pesala and Gwen-Dragon.
Some website like Google drive can change its download address back to a page address that make the download address I got from copy download address command isn't a real download address of that file. I tested it on Cyberfox and Opera 12, those gave me a real download address without any problem.
I don't know it cause by Blink engine or Vivaldi team but I think it should not be a feature that prevent user to know an information about address we downloading, it might be some website use this feature to redirect download destination to a malware or a trojan.

This is a pdf file name "Getting started" from my google drive, it's change download address to page address.

This is what I get after downloading your PDF, and copying the address:
https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B_LVzxeqJvq1c3RhcnRlcl9maWxl&export=download
So, it works for me in the latest 32-bit Snapshot.

@Pesala, It should return an address like this one, that one you got just a download page address, not a download file address.

Hi The_Solutor,
I disagree.
1. This is problem cause by Vivaldi/Blink engine not by user nor web standard, don't shift the problem to other software to fixed it for Vivaldi/Blink engine.2. This feature out of standard so far; I know Google try very hard to make their engine become next IE6 but this one is unacceptable; the feature to hide information in an open web platform provide by browser is truly unacceptable, it isn't the same as someone try to hide a code or information by a Javascript's trick that still in web standard guide.
3. This might be a security problem in the future; if it can be hide then other thing will be hide more in future like cookies, web store. When more information has been hide, more thing we can't verify, more risk we can't foresee and protect ourselves.

I may agree in principle. But hiding information is a bit exaggerated here. By that logic storing the hostname instead of the server IP is "hiding information". But I'm sure people expect to retrieve the same logical host after one week or one month, not the real machine that hosted that service in a definite day in a definite network condition.
And you know that hardly you will connect to the same physical machine even few minutes later. Especially speaking about big companies and cloud services. Now what happens here is a similar scenario, there is an abstraction level, just like the DNS name. Users expect to retrieve that document not to retrieve the same host. The host can change 5 minutes after the download took place, but the users want to retrieve the document, not the host.
3. This might be a security problem in the future; if it can be hide then other thing will be hide more in future like cookies, web store. When more information has been hide, more thing we can't verify, more risk we can't foresee and protect ourselves.
Might be. Sure. But still you store you bookmarks with an human readable form, not the IP. Just because there are forms of DNS spoofing in the wild

The_Solutor, with respect you are the moderator of Vivaldi forum, you are represent of Vivaldi staff so please don't answer or reply with some excuse or dodge question like that. I simply point out an issue that only happened to Vivaldi browser; I don't know it's happened on Chrome or Opera15+ because I don't use them but I know it's not happened Opera 12.17 or those Firefox clone.
I ask you as the represent of Vivaldi Technologies that will developer team of Vivaldi Technologies consider this issue is a problem and it should be fixed ?
I'm sorry if your responsibility is limited only manage vivaldi.net forum.

What has to do my role here with my replies. ?
You shared your opinion, I shared mine about a behavior.
For the record a behavior which isn't an odd Vivaldi behavior, but it's shared by many other programs, including some specialized downloaders.
I respect your opinion, and I'm not againist an option about that. But I can't consider this a bug.
That's all.
