Still a bug: Mouse Gesture DOWN opens link from closed page.
-
This has been a bug for as long as I can remember. If I close a tab and mouse-gesture DOWN to open a new one, it'll open a new tab with content from the closed tab.
For example, if I close Facebook and pull down to open a new tab, it'll open the new tab with a link from the closed Facebook tab and for the next two months I'm getting ads for Beyonce or whatever.
I'm a lot less unhappy about the bug than I am about Twitter thinking I'm totally into Donald Trump or some other awful thing.
I'm surprised this bug still exists, it doesn't seem like a minor issue.

I can't reproduce that behavior on 1.6.689.40 / 1.7.735.11 (both 32-bit). Have you altered the default mouse gestures for "New Tab" or "Reopen Closed Tab" in settings? Could this be caused by any of the extensions that you use? And what do you mean you're getting unwanted ads on Facebook? What does it have to do with this issue?

I'm running 1.7.735.11 (Official Build) (32-bit), so it seems. It's been a problem more or less since the mouse gestures were introduced. There are several threads about it in these forums.
Facebook shows you more of the stuff it thinks you like. You click on an ad for wedding venues and you're gonna get lots of ads for wedding stuff. Since Vivaldi is occasionally randomly clicking on stuff I can't see and don't mean to click, I get ads for random stuff and I'm sure I'm in a database somewhere as a guy who's keenly into macrame. It sucks.
I only run a handful of extensions: Privacy Badger, Ghostery, a URL/QR-code generator, quick JS switcher, FB Purity and Hide Twitter Guff. None of these mess with the mouse and the problem existed before I installed any of them, so I think they're blameless.
What may be relevant is that I have my tabs on the right side, I disabled the thumbnails, and I use right-click-mousewheel to flick between tabs. I've enabled Show Tab Cycler, and Switch Tabs by Scrolling.
So, to test: load a page with a big clickable link on it. Mouse close it: down right. Hover over where that link was. Mouse down to open a new window. It'll open that link as if it were on the active page.

I'm well aware of it and that's why I use Privacy Badger and uBlock Origin to prevent this kind of advertisements (BTW it's called "remarketing"). Furthermore, I use Private Windows for almost everything I do on the web with the only exception for the websites that I use on a daily basis (like Facebook, YouTube, work stuff, Vivaldi forum and a couple others) or some other websites that I know very well and trust them.
Actually, using Private Windows is the most effective method for keeping my searches (reasonably) private from the marketing & advertising agencies or companies and it's also beneficial in other fields, like security because it keeps my accounts that I'm logged in (like aforementioned Facebook for example) safe from websites that might want to read my cookies or trick me to log in with my facebook account to reveal some content whereas it's true intention was to spam mine and/or my friends accounts.

Now you actually explained how to reproduce that bug. I found that it's quite easy to reproduce it on YouTube's home page. I don't use the mouse gesture to open new tabs and perhaps that's why I was unaware of that bug.
I'm dealing with a similar bug on my tablet, where sometimes having two tabs opened and watching YT's video in full screen on one of the tabs causes the background tab to become "active" so that tapping (I'm talking about a touch screen) on the foreground tab causes to open links from the background tab (if there are any). The taps are somehow "translated" to the wrong tab.
Vivaldi seems to suffer from a bunch of bugs related to tabs handling. I guess all we can do is to submit the bug reports and wait for the fixes...

I've had this happening recently as well, except it's not a link from the closed page, but usually just the last tab that I closed.

Can you clarify for me what the difference is between the last page you closed and the last tab you closed? I use the terms page and tab interchangeably.

Might be the same problem - your topic title says "link from closed page", and I keyed off that.

I've had this problem for quite some time. Don't know what's causing it but in my experience it executes the mouse gesture on the contents of the page that has just been closed, rather than the current page itself. To clarify,
- Suppose in a two-tab window, page A and page B are open, and page B is currently active.
- Further suppose the mouse pointer is currently positioned over a link in page B
- Close page B using the shortcut Ctrl-W
- Perform a Down gesture on page A to open a new tab
What happens is the Down gesture is interpreted as "open in a new tab" for the link that the pointer would be pointing to on the page that had been closed, had it not been closed. That is, the gesture acts on content belonging to a tab that no longer exists.
