Vivaldi's Android browser
-
when your are releasing Vivaldi's android browser in 2017 ?
-
It's been a very long time since we heard anything at all about an Android version - obviously, it will appear WIR (obviously...); but as the OP asks, is there any hint at all as to how it's doing? Nothing at all specific, it would just be nice to know if it's
a) only an idea (still years away)
b) someone's pet project (test versions may appear in a year or two)
c) being worked on by a small number of people (test versions may appear after several months)
d) an active project (test versions could appear this year)
e) a high behind-the-scenes priority (get ready for a nice surprise soon...) -
There are a number of interviews that has mobile mentioned (many recent too), but no definitive dates on release etc. I can't give a specific answer as to its priority, but we have started work on it
-
@Aronand Thanks. I'm going to class that as level c to d then!
-
so your will browser also have special features or not?
-
@uzma: It will have a UI and features that the developer feel work well in a phone interface. For this reason, it can't be in any way identical to the desktop version, but it also will not be like other Android browsers, as the aim will not be to strip it down.
-
@Ayespy so try your best and good luck!
-
What would set it apart from other browser would be working chrome extensions. Currently only Firefox includes them, but they obviously don't feature chrome extension.
-
@luetage hmmm
-
l have request please add offline page feature before releasing the browser because I frequently use offline page feature

How long have you been working on it? I remember reading a year ago that it started being developed.
-
@D0J0P We haven't worked on Android continuously, but investigations has happened throughout Vivaldi's existence.
-
@Aronand Not sure what you mean by investigations, but the first part means you've been developing it on and off?
-
It's kinda crazy but I'd like to see Vivaldi Mail in Android. Ever since Dropbox closed the Mailbox service it acquired I noticed that there is no decent mail client around for this operating system.
-
@luetage K9 is actually a very good mail client for Android. Open source community project and does everything... And does it well.

No, not only FF. Yesterday i installed Yandex Browser on my Android phone, & today i discovered it can use some Chrome extensions [eg, Ghostery]. Unfortunately though it refused to install uBlock Origin, despite it also being in the Yandex Chrome Extension Store.
-
@mossman -- K9 is good, but a couple of years ago i changed to AquaMail.
-
before releasing the app do you also do a technical preview like the desktop version
-
@uzma: Jon has not said. I suspect that as soon as a version is reasonably ready it will be released, and then it will be aggressively developed and updated, much as the desktop client has been. Whether that first release is called Tech Preview or Beta or Ver 0.5, matters little. They'll try not to release anything that will blow up on a user, or have no appealing features, but it won't be the final version, either.
-
@Ayespy ok! thanks for telling about your project
