panel user-agent switcher
-
panels can switch between mobile and desktop user agents with right click. is the user agent string identical except for that? how does the user-agent change from vivaldi>help>about for a mobile user-agent? would it be possible to further alter the user agent string, as i often use unwieldy extensions for that.

Just add some page like this as a web panel and see for yourself.
Here's my machine:
"Standard" user agent:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/55.0.2883.98 Safari/537.36 Vivaldi/1.6.689.40
"Mobile" user agent:
Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 6.0.1; SM-G920F Build/MMB29K) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/55.0.2883.98 Mobile Safari/537.36 Vivaldi/1.6.689.40
Currently changing your user agent is possible only through extensions (or maybe by tweaking the browser's code, but I haven't tried that). Maybe one day there will be such option available in settings (from what I remember Maxthon had such feature).

many thanks. i tested user agents on linux, i was unsure if other operating systems would have the same results (i dont have macOS). thank you for recommendation of another cool browser. i am installing it on my windows machine tomorrow. two rendering engines in the same browser? this does look like it's going to be interesting.
i use this user agent switcher https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/user-agent-switcher-for-c/djflhoibgkdhkhhcedjiklpkjnoahfmg?hl=en-US , although i haven't tested it in a panel. i like this user agent switcher better: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/custom-user-agent-string/platform:2/addon-454278-latest.xpi?src=ss , although i only found it on firefox. it has a simpler way of interacting with the user. that is why i am curious about if you can cook it into the browser. although it is one of my less-desired features. -

I don't think so, it's more likely a different user-agent string within the same browser, using the same rendering engine...

I can't seem to find an answer to this very simple question. Maxthon 5 only uses webkit engine? No options? Thanks.

No it also uses the Trident engine. Click on the Lightning bold at the right end of the address bar and it will change to the Trident engine.

@monkey_wrench_gang898 I didn't know that. I rarely use Maxthon and I'm not familiar with its features. From what I heard they send some of your data (like the extensions or software that you have installed on your computer) to their servers somewhere in China, even if you opt out of their "User Experience Improvement Program". Some people consider this as a privacy violation...

i researched it today. looks a bit worse than that even. it transmits browser history and version numbers of other programs on your computer using weak encryption. it has an opt out, but company said it was an opt out of completely-invasive back to uncomfortably-invasive. in my research i did find lunascape though (lunascape.tv). apparently its supposed to have three rendering engines, built-in user agent switcher, and it accepts extensions from internet explorer, firefox, and lunascape.
i did not test those claims. it seems too ambitious to work well, but i should at least try it in a vm. they claim versions of mouse-gestures and tab organization. has anyone tried this browser? i am curious about the features it advertises, although i am skeptical of the excecution.
