First unread post (probably a stupid question)
-
Since the update to the forum software, I find I keep re-reading the same posts whenever I go to a topic.
I'm sure I must be missing the correct way to do this but: how do I browse through the categories and go to the first unread post on a thread? Every other forum I use either has a "go to first unread" button or lets you do it by clicking on the number of posts or something instead of the thread title.
In the current Vivaldi forum, I either have to start at the beginning or click the last post info to the right of the thread.
So... am I stupid or is this function just not here?!?
-
Forgot to mention - this is actually the reason I'm not bothering much with the forum these days!
Apart from notifications of replies to my own posts, I can't keep track of what's going on here any more...!!!

Have you perhaps changed the "Sort By" options at bottom right?
-
By default you should be redirected to the last read post automatically. However, this doesn't always work perfectly. If you're not redirected automatically, here's what you can try:
First of all check on the settings page: https://forum.vivaldi.net/user/mossman/settings if you have the "Paginate topics and posts instead of using infinite scroll" option turned on or off.
For pagination turned on:
Go to the first page of the topic. For pagination turned off:
Press the[HOME]
button after loading the topic page.A popup saying "Click here to return to the last read post in this thread" should appear in the bottom right corner of the page. Clicking on it should redirect you to the last read post (it would be highlighted by a single blue line on the bottom of the post; it will disappear after a few seconds).

@ Pesala - it's sorted oldest to newest - don't know if that is significant or not (don't remember changing it)
@ pafflick - so I changed from paginated (20 per page) to non-paginated to test... I can still find threads where it definitely doesn't work!
E.g.
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/12846/update-1-6-689-34-and-crap
This went to the thread-starter when I know for sure I've read all the way through this thread - several times in fact since it always started at the top of the page whenever I opened it the last few days.
-
@mossman Meh... now it goes to the bottom.
I give up...
-
That's why I said it doesn't always work perfectly...
-
@pafflick I don't keep reading the same posts, but I've also noticed that the unread links don't always scroll perfectly to the exact position of the first unread post.
It takes some guess work scrolling a bit up or down to see which one it is exactly. -

I fully agree. The whole "philosophy" behind this forum software feels quite awkward to me.
But since there is barely criticism I guess I have to live with it. I just wanted to silently voice this sentiment.
