Manual Sync of Preferences Across Computers
-
So I'm trying to figure out the best way to make sure that all of my settings from vivalid://settings are the same across my multiple devices. Is the current best way to do that is to copy the entire folder of "Vivaldi" under AppData and copy it over before installing it on the new device? What are your guys thoughts on how I should manually sync my preferences?

For the most part, I just copy the "Vivaldi/User Data/ Default" folder. Passwords, extensions and passwords can't be copied and transferred, but it will transfer everything else.

Hi,
I'd also be interested in how to move my user specific data, INCL. notes and passwords from one installation to another. E.g. after restoring an image of my system partition which obviously also kills my C:\…\AppData\Local\Vivaldi folder containing this information.
Of course I tried just dropping the "Default" folder into its designated location but I could see: no, it didn't work. Now I have a backup of the Vivaldi folders incl. that "Default" folder. Is there any way to restore the notes and maybe even the passwords?
Thanks in advance
Regards
RogerWilco// I should add, that it is the very same hardware platform, the very same (Windows) user account as I restored an image of my system partition.
/// Weird, notes are back now. Passwords still aren't

Why?
What aboutVivaldi/User Data/ Default/Notes ```file?…

I'm synchronizing my "default" folder over several computers with Syncthing. It works absolutely perfectly.
And it's not correct that the passwords will not be synchronized. Everything is stored in the default profile. Also the extensions. Just everything (also open tabs…).
Syncthing is great, I use it for everything: https://syncthing.net

Ok, let me try to recapture the information that I have come across regarding "moving Vivaldi user data"
It should work flawlessly, if
1. it is the same hardware platform, as in the same machine, no changes made to the hardware configuration
2. it is for the same Windows user account (SID)For that one only needs to
3. back up the "%SystemDrive%\Users{username}\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default" folder before, say restoring an image of that partition to retain the latest state which can be put back in place after a clean re-installation of Vivaldi (it wasn't part of that backup/image at the time)which should contain
4. Vivaldi's preferences configuration
5. notes
6. extensions (including their configs)
7. passwords (which didn't work for me).
8. bookmarks (incl. speeddial (configuration))
9. ?Regarding 7.:
I read somewhere that they are (allegedly ?!) encrypted and works just like with Chrome/Chromium where it is tied to 1. and 2. for Windows based platforms. I found posts on the WWW, how one can "extract" the passwords using the browser's developer tools, which I hadn't thought of prior to re-installing)
I hear your words that it's synching fine with the tool that you pointed to, but wouldn't contradict the security approach by Chrome/Chromium?
And what I don't understand then is, why my copying of the "%SystemDrive%\Users{username}\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\User Data\Default" folder didn't bring back my passwords after I put them into that location after my image restore.Hmm, well, could it be that I switched from "Per user" to "For everyone" on that new VIvaldi installation. That might make sense, as, but I haven't checked that yet, a different SID might come into play here.
Thankfully I didn't lose any or just a few as the real important ones were in my local password manager tool or can be reset through the according websites.
Would be nice to have something like MozBackup for Vivaldi.
BUT to everybody reading this: VIVALDI ROCKS!
