"Open link in a new tab" intermmitently broken for many web pages.
-
This started after I upgraded to 1.4.589.38 (Stable channel) (64-bit) On some websites, if I control + left click on a link or right click and select "open link in new tab" nothing happens. A regular left click move that tab to the link, but I can't open in it in a new tab no matter what. This went on for about 15 minutes while I was searching for a solution and now both reddit.com and intensivedietarymanagement.com are working when they previously weren't. It has happened to me several times yesterday and today. Thanks.

If this happened to me, the first thing I would try would be a different mouse, or new batteries in my wireless mouse.

I've been having a similar problem for maybe two weeks now at least?
Anything that tries to automatically open a new tab in Vivaldi results in a blank tab. The URL is displayed in that tab, Vivaldi seems to be loading the page as well, but the page never actually renders.
If I copy the URL into a new tab I continue to have the same problem where the page will not load about half of the time. If I copy and paste the URL into a tab that has already rendered a page successfully it usually loads no problem. Not really sure what to make of it.
-
I have a similar problem, but only with a specific website at the moment (Tweetdeck).
If I middle-click any link in my Tweetdeck feed, it opens a new tab, seems to load the page, but never renders it. I can right-click and view source, and can see the HTML. But the tab itself just stays gray.
Copypasting the link into a new tab or using the context menu 'Open in new Tab' feature works reliably (so far).I don't have this issue with Tweetdeck in Firefox.
-
Whatever the issue is, it's quite annoying.
It even happens to me on the Vivaldi page. If I click on the community link, Vivaldi tries to open up the forum in a new tab, and then that tab fails to load.
-
This is also happening with the latest public snapshot.

If you mean http://vivaldi.com
Then this sounds like the same problem reported in Vivaldi 1.4 stable

https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/vivaldi-browser/15390-middle-click-open-in-bg-opens-an-empty-tabThat problem was fixed in Snapshot 1.5.618.8
And OK for me in 1.5.627.3 (Developer Build) (64-bit)This is also happening with the latest public snapshot.
Is this only on Tweetdeck? I don't have an account to check.
If not, can you give other example of where you are seeing it?

Right now, this is happening for me on tweetdeck.twitter.com and vivaldi.com.
- Browse to vivaldi.com
- middle-click or CTRL+click 'Community'
- Tab that opens seems to load everything(I see a data/element counter) but then remains gray (does not render page)
- Right-click and 'Open in new tab' works fine
It also happens with the links you've posted in your reply. Even when I just click on them (they open a new tab by default) the new tab remains blank. In the blank tabs however, I can view source and it appears to be the source of the loaded page. I've attached a screenshot of what such a tab looks like. You can see from the address bar that the browser has identified the page.
Edit: Using the mouse gesture to open a link in a new tab works fine (hold right button and move mouse down)
Vivaldi 1.5.627.3 (Developer Build) (64-bit)

Well, using the same version of Vivaldi I can't reproduce the problem
I'm on Windows 10 Pro (64 bit)You should probably create a bug report
Go to https://vivaldi.com/bugreport
You will receive a reply email with the bug number VB-xxxx
and you can then reply to that with a link to this thread.
and put the bug number here.I would also include your O.S. details.
At least you have a workaround - using Mouse Gestures
If you want to test some things:
-
Try with clean profile (in case extensions are interfering)
See https://vivaldi.net/forum/all/14141-refreshing-or-cleaning-your-profile
and just rename the folder (Default) so you don't lose anything - e.g. SavedProfile
Then restart Vivaldi - it will create a blank profile (no extensions/passwords/bookmarks etc) but it's just to test -
Another thing you may wish to try is use the 32 bit version of vivaldi (install as standalone)
Again just as a test

-
While that may be case for OP (gotaug) , it is not the issue for rainynight (he sees the correct url in the address bar, but the page is just not displayed).

Okay so I tried a fresh install of Vivaldi on a different PC. Here's how it went:
- Installed Snapshot 626.8 (x64) and let it auto-update to 627.3 (no config aside from tab bar position and start page background)
- Tried vivaldi.com with the middle-click on Community - working
- Installed/enabled two extensions (Lastpass and Ublock Origin) - middle click no longer works (issue as described previously)
- Tried to disable extensions - middle click still doesn't work
- Tried to delete the profile - middle click still doesn't work
- Tried to delete the profile and completely reinstall Vivaldi - middle click still doesn't work
But here's the fun bit: The exact same steps on a fresh Virtual Machine (Win10 1607 Enterprise) that I whipped up for different purposes aren't causing any problems.
Unfortunately, I am running out of real-world machines to test this on. My MacBook is still available, but it'll have to wait for a bit longer.
-
Not sure if this helps or confuses things more:
Just tried Vivaldi 1.4.589.38 (Stable channel) (32-bit) Win Pro (64bit)
Tried this because I have Ublock Origin installed on it.Load Vivaldi.com
Middle click "community" - works OK.-
Installed Snapshot 626.8 (x64) and let it auto-update to 627.3
-
Tried vivaldi.com with the middle-click on Community - working
-
Tried to delete the profile - middle click (still) doesn't work
Assuming the "delete profile" means deleting (or renaming) the Default folder; I'm unsure what the difference could be between these two scenarios.
Edit: I don't use it so I'll ask, does LastPass log you in to Vivaldi community automatically?

It does not.
I might try out the 32bit version to see what happens with that. Also forgot to mention that I did log a bug report.
Edit: No joy with the 32bit version (on the same PC where I previously tested a fresh 64bit install).
-
OK
You'll have to watch the snapshot blogs to see if the bug number is mentioned, or a similar bug description (if it is a duplicate of another). -
For me, this issue is resolved with 638.3. Wonder if the Chromium update had anything top do with it.
How can I update my bug report? Is that possible?
-
Well, the Chromium update is the only fix in that version (over 1.5.633.3 ) which could be related to your problem.
I would give it a day or two (for confidence) and ensure you do some system restarts, check on all your machines etc.
If you are then sure it is fixed, you can reply to the email that gave you the bug number and say so. -
I think that links open funny too. Im on V 1.4 latest. I in most cases open links in new background tabs and it's killing my productivity that open in new background tab is 3rd on the right click context menu.
So many possibilities on options on how tabs land and close but not a single one for how links open

Well, this problem is back for me in 652.8, with a vengeance. Besides Tweetdeck and vivaldi.com it also affects GMail and multiple vbulletin sites.
Should I reopen my previous bug (seeing that I can't check anywhere what the status on it is) or rather create a fresh one?

Using 1.5.652.8 (Official Build) (32-bit) on Windows 7 - I can't reproduce the problem on Vivaldi.com
Don't have a twitter account, but on https://tweetdeck.twitter.com/ also no problem with links to T.O.S. etc
You can try replying to the BUG email and report a "regression" - if someone else can reproduce it.

Besides context menu to open a link in Background, you can :
- middle click a link
- Ctrl-click a link
- use mouse gestures
