New tab and address bar
-
Hi @ all, I'm using Vivaldi from a few months now, and I quite like it. But there's one thing that drives me mad every time I open a new tab. I installed an extension, FDV Speed Dial, and even if it's not set as the default homepage automatically, lie in other browsers (FF, Chrome, Opera), I managed to make it the default homepage and page for the new tabs. But there's a problem I can't solve: every time I open a new tab, in the address bar this URL shows up: "vivaldi://newtab". The problem is that I use the address bar as search bar also, but since this message vivaldi://newtab is not at least highlighted, it doesn't disappear when I start to write the search string, so everytime I get an error message. I have every time to highlight the vivaldi://newtab with the mouse, delete it and type the search string. Any idea on how to get rid of it? Normally if you click on it the whole string should highlight, then you just write over it, no need to press delete. If it somehow doesn't highlight try the shortcut for Focus Address Field. You can change it in Keyboard Settings.

Thanks for your help… But that doesn't solve the problem, it's just a workaround that implies one more action from me... other browsers don't have this "vivaldi://newtab" when I open a new tab... can't anyone find a way to remove it?

I don't want to make a new thread so I will ask here. How can I:
1. Make tabs more compact and smaller a-la Chrome
2. Make them display the status of the page i.,e that loading circle. Right now it is utterly confusing when I click some link and don't see nay indication if it is being loaded -
The only immediate indicator of a loading tab is the transformation of the reload button to the stop button (X) in the address bar. None of your requests can currently be addressed by standard Vivaldi, but it is possible to modify your installation. We have a dedicated forum board for that: https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/modifications
First steps: https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/modifications/14331-modding-vivaldi
Spinning favicon/loading circle: https://vivaldi.net/en-US/forum/modifications/14431-vivaldi-ui-customisations?start=520There is also a customisation to indicate the loading of pages instantly, can't find it at the moment.

If I wanted to write my own browser I wouldn't be here, man.
Thanks though.

Fixed in 1.5.609.8: Progress bar is not displayed immediately after pressing Reload (F5) (VB-19994)
