XMarks Breaks Bookmark Setting Menu
-
Version: 1.2.490.3 on latest Mac OSX and Ubuntu XMarks itself won't break Vivaldi, but once I sync my bookmarks from XMarks, the bookmark configuration menu (in Tools > Setting...) no longer works. I could still click on the tab, but the page won't switch.

Good to know! Please report to https://vivaldi.com/bugreport.html

I can confirm that. I have to manually type in address and title to add new bookmarks after XMark syncs.

You can actually still create bookmarks by opening the bookmarks side panel and then dragging the icon at the left side of the address bar (i.e., the lock icon or the world icon) and dropping it in the bookmark panel where you want to file it. It's possible that it looks then like the bookmark was not created, but if you close and reopen the side panel, you'll see that the bookmark has indeed been created.

Other bookmarks sync extensions like eversynxc creates same error and prevents creations of new bookmarks.
Same error for me when using Bookmarks Menu. Workaround given by NSSynapse works.

Just installed xmarks and tried to synch - it said it was successfull but now all my bookmarks in vivaldi are deleted!! The only items left are the speed dial I had created. It would appear that the synch does not work at all - they are still in xmarks on the web so I can re-import them again
Really annoying because in my opinion this is pretty much the only thing missing in vivaldi - the ability to keep my speed dials and bookmarks in synch across my computers
FVD speed dial is very good but am not really a huge fan of extensions, they just slow everything down. I prefer native built in functions. Will just have to wait but it does keep me from deleting my other browser!

Part of the problem is that XMarks thinks Speed Dial and Bookmarks are different things. In EVERY browser but Vivaldi, they are. But IMHO Vivaldi's approach is better. To be able to select any bookmark folder as Speed Dial or Bookmark Bar is genius. But XMarks does not understand it.
The main problem is the fact that XMarks actually breaks Vivaldi's bookmark management scheme. With any luck, that will ultimately be fixed forever. Better still, Vivaldi will be able to roll out their own sync solution and XMarks can be relegated to the scrap heap.

The problem with Bookmarks Menu is no longer an issue for newest Vivaldi snapshot 1.3.551.27 (64-bit). Add Bookmark button now works properly with Bookmarks Menu installed and active.
Don't know about XMarks since I don't use it.
