Mail client: Timeout connecting to server
-
Hi,
since the last update of the mail client/webmail and the implementation of two-factor authentication (which I haven't activated) I get a "Timeout connecting to server" error when using the mail client. Happens constantly. It only works sometimes. There are no issues when I log in using the Webmail page. It also seems like that some mails fail to be received.I didn't change any settings.

@BenjaminSchultz
Hi, I use vivaldi.net mail with the snapshot (Beta) build mainly but setup my account now on Vivaldi 6.0.2979.22, IMAP with OAuth.
No issues so far, vivaldi.net mail is slow sometimes but I never loose any mails.
I don´t use the 2-factor authentication.
You can check the status of the mail server:

I tried activating OAuth but it's the same result. "Timeout connecting to server". -
@BenjaminSchultz
Hm, any third party AV software running?
They start blocking/slowdown often after an update of Vivaldi, Avast is this king of blocking Vivaldi software but others do the same.
Do you use one?Cheers, mib

@BenjaminSchultz Check for mail every 15min might help. I rarely experience timeouts this way.
-
I experience such timeouts several times a day lately, mainly with the vivaldi.net account. Query interval: 15 min

@mib2berlin
I use Vivaldi and Avast for years and never had any problems. Deactivating Avast now didn't help.@Hadden89
I already use that option. -
@BenjaminSchultz It makes sense not to publish your complete email address. Edit the image instead and grey out the username.
Sometimes it might be caused by broken internet connection...
-
I just checked for mails manually and it worked. Most of the times when I tried it manually it didn't work. I guess I see what happens within the next hours/days.
@Dancer18
Isn't the mail address always the same as the user name anyway?Edit
And it's timeout-time again… -
@BenjaminSchultz Yes you are right.

@BenjaminSchultz
We had reports for years about Avast, I could not add a new mail account with running Avast on a friends PC, for example.
It´s just a guess, if many user have this problem we would get much more reports.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin
Like I said deactivating Avast didn't help.
Besides nothing about my setup changed in any way. The only thing that changed was the mail client/webmail update and 2FA (which is deactivated). The issue occurred exactly at that time.Manual checking for mails worked again. But it probably won't take long until the error reoccurs.
Edit
And there it is again. -
I should mention, that I also have a Yahoo mail account which works without issues.
-
@BenjaminSchultz Yes, that's why I also think it's mainly a vivaldi.net account issue, although it can happen from time to time with other accounts.
